I got an offer on a domain at Sedo and we eventually settled on 1000 Euros.

Nothing was heard from the buyer for 2 weeks, and Sedo sent me this:

"Unfortunately we have had no choice but to cancel the transfer for this domain
name. Despite repeated emails and contact attempts the buyer has failed to
provide us with the necessary information to process this transaction."

They also added that I could have the buyers contact details in the event that I want to pursue legal action.

Anyone here ever followed up on a NPB?

This has happened to me once when someone offered $75 for the domain millionpagehomepage.com. I accepted and they didnt reply...

This happens often on auction sites. Buyer's remorse. Sometimes it is caused by the buyer telepathically sensing your elation for getting such a good price for a piece of junk - I am not sure if I am joking about that.

Anyway no sale. Forget it.

either the buyer feel that the price is too high and want to back off immediately, or what...

but yea, you can stil wait in case an accident really occur,

but parting with 1000 euros really hurts., seriously.

It kind of defeats the object when people pull out like that. How can sedo expect to be taken seriously, it even says that the contract is binding. :td:

First click fraud....could this be bid fraud?

Similar happened to me too, sorry dude. I wish there was something to protect sellers in these kind of cases.

Unfortunately this will continue to happen at all sorts of sites. The best thing that could happen is to require a deposit. Maybe start off with a 25-50% deposit of an accepted offer. If they back out of the sale, they do not get their money back. Watch how fast fraud bidders go away as their game of messing with people won't be free anymore.

me too

Just had a $1000 die. Buyer waited full ten days to notify sedo that he would be wiring the money then, guess what, he never paid. Just some kid screwing around. I told sedo I would like him suspended, at least from ever bidding on my names.

The best solution, build your own domain sales web site and point your domains to that. Avoid the sedo hassle and fee.

Also, do the math on your revenue per month. Do you make more money in parking per month or in sales per month. I found out that I make more selling than parking so why would I park and make X when I can sell a couple domains and make three or four times X.

If someone wants your domain, they will type it in and do a whois lookup. In many cases I don't think people search around sedo or afternic then discover a domain they like.

So, why not point your domain for sale to your domains for sale site?

I estimate that about 20% of bids I accept turn into actual sales. SEDO really sucks because they let anyone place bids without proper verification procedures. When I've addressed this issue they were very defensive, something like: hey, it's not our fault that people don't pay! But it's exactly their fault. While this happening once in a while is ok, 20% is ridiculous!

sedo is a nightmare for selling domains... thats why I made my own site (see sig)... hopefully it will pick up. I've had that same thing happen to me on sedo already about 5 times.

Thanks for allyour comments, they should blacklist non paying bidders somehow.

Found out that my "bidder" is located in Austria. Maybe if he was in the UK I'd have taken legal action.

Anyway, carry on regardless I guess. :)

Ha! I can beat your situation. I recenetly sold a .uk.org for $125. So, Sedo get's $100, I get $25. Well, It's been regged almsot 2 years, and I didn't plan to reg it again. So, I figured $25 is better than nothing, I can reg a couple more domains. 10 days went by, nothing from the buyer. I told Sedo to cancel the transaction. This way I could maybe I will reg it again, and relist at Sedo at $500! I wasn't going to let this guy buy it for $125 again. A couple of days later, I get the message from Sedo, that "they have tried to contact the buyer, and haven't been able to contact him, so they will have to cancel the transaction!" Ok, I thought, that's what I wanted anyway.

Today, I get a message that they have received the payment form the buyer, and to please start the transfer! I think it will be more of a "pain in the "*ss" now to complete this, since it isn't a simple "push". I have to download "transfer forms", include a letter, etc. etc... plus it will expire soon. I have heard with uk stuff it takes weeks, or months.
I don't think I will ever reg any UK domains, even though Sedo is currently telling you how great they are doing !!

I am not blaming Sedo for this. I can't understand why a buyer will submit a bid, and then wait until the last minuite to pay. I feel you should have the money available, and be able to pay right away.

Hi Folks,

Well I have used Sedo for several years now, and only just had my first buyer back out .... Mind you it was TOTALLY obvious that it was just someone messing around, unless someone out there is really willing to pay a 7 figure sum for a pretty awful domain :)

All the best.

Richard

Sedo doesn't care about these things. I had a seller back out of a deal days after I made payment. All action they took against the seller was setting the domain to 'not for sale'.

DomainSage how many have you sold at Sedo,
if you don't mind me asking, and is it usually a very
smooth process?

Hi Halobitt,

No problem about asking :)

I don't have a definative count as I started my first internet company in early 2000 and wound that up last year ... When I started my new one.
But in the last 8 months ( ish ) around 10, one thing to note is that I have noticed quite a dramatic reduction in the number of offers since I stopped parking there as well :)
It is not really somewhere I concentrate on, more a leave and hope.

As far as the actual process of selling domains through them I have found it to work quite well ... However if your domains are parked at GoDaddy I would recommend that you contact Sedo to transfer the domain directly to them rather than the buyer.

That has been the only hold up I have come across, after the buyer has paid you try and transfer to them and it can drag .... Transfering directly to Sedo seems a lot quicker.

Hope that helps.

All the best.

Richard
PS
As a total guess I would say around 125 domains in all through Sedo.

They may come back. That's what happened with the name I just sold recently. Sedo had cancelled the transaction after many days went by after I had accepted the bid. Then a few weeks later Sedo contacted me again and said that the buyer still wanted the name. The buyer was in Barcelona, Sedo said the buyer wasn't often able to get online (probably just an excuse but maybe they travelled a lot.)
