While it may vary from domain to domain, I want to get your views on which factors influence the sale of domains based on your experience (apart from the quality of domain & pricing )

My experience (in order)
1. Afternic network exposure (most)
2. GoDaddy brand name on Landing page
3. Landing page (any)
4. Outbound email
5. Sedo MLS network exposure
6. Atom ads exposure (least)

I'm still trying to understand why few big domainers use Atom & Sedo landing pages. What am I missing ?

I see a fair number of longtime members reporting zero sales on Sedo over the long term and underwhelming landers activity. The market overall has stagnated.

Sedo's native sales outside of its network and its landers is absolutely minimal for global tlds. It might be different for EU cctlds, e.g., not sure.

Unfortunately for Sedo, their network partners prioritize Afternic feed. Without them, Sedo is selling 1 name every 2-3 months for me out of around 36000 domains (haven't updated for few months now with the latest names).

So, if you have, e.g., 3000 names, you'd have a sale every 2-3 years.

This might seem strange, but is absolutely normal for a marketplace that a) doesn't have its own popular registrar(s) b) doesn't do any promotion, advertising etc. to attract new buyers. It might have couple thousand regular buyers, but them searching among millions of listings, the impact on overall sales is minimal.

Sedo is waste of time, indeed. Still waiting to sell a name, just to cover my working hours adding names to their website.

I would have #1 and #2 as:
  • Desirability of name
  • Number of existing businesses using inferior extensions or similar (but worse) names.
