I have been reaching out to a bunch of people with good names to inquire about their availability. It seems that everyone is holding out for flowers.mobi money now. People are responding saying that they want $xxx, xxx for their semi-decent names. The owner of fantasyfootball.mobi would not take less than $200k. Seems like a tight market right now.
(Except for Jeremy...who must be using some sort of voodoo during his transactions  ...)

I have about 10-15k more that I'm willing to spend for good names, but it seems as if people are holding tightly. Are you all seeing similar things?

Personally, I feel some will get disillusioned after a year or two and may drop their prices to more reasonable sums, where there will be more opportunities.

Those who have been around awhile and have seen this before, please weigh in with where you think things are going.

Thanks!

A lot of the asking prices I have seen for .mobi's exceed the value of the same name in .com.

I think the flowers.mobi sale was detrimental to mobi. If the good names don't get into the hands of end users that would develop the sites, .mobi is going to have a hard time thriving.

I was the second high bidder on stockquotes.mobi, and I was amazed that I didn't get it, figuring $15k'ish would be the highest anyone else would go. (I think $11k was the highest Pool.com bid for any mobi) Of course this was before flowers.mobi hit the auction block. Since the flowers.mobi auction, there is now a wave of people trying to get in on the mobi action. I see a lot of garbage names being registered, especially when you consider the types of web sites someone would want to access from a mobile device.

I don't even think flowers.mobi is that great of a name, yet I see lots of variations of the name being registered, just because of the sale. Of course it is a very good name, but it's not the sex.com of mobi. There are a lot better names still on the premium list that people would have better luck registering variations of, if they want to play that game.

It's disapointing to see people get caught up in the hype, rather than the real potential, and it's the hype that has people asking these crazy prices for mediocre names.

Tell me about it! I am wasting so much time trying to negotiate a reasonable price with these peeps!!! Now if I get a stupid counter offer I just don't reply & move on to the next deal. I got 1 guy to drop by 10k almost immediatley but the price was still more than flowers hahaha, for an above average name!!!

I agree too. I wish the auction didnt happen until like 6 months after mobi came out. Everyone thinks mobi is some get rich quick thing now and that they can register a not so good name for 30 bucks even right now and think they can get 30k for it the next day. It has been almost impossible to buy good mobi names off of people. Everyone thinks anything they have is worth 5 or 6 figures when the same name in .com wouldnt even be worth more than $xxx. Almost every decent offer I make to people on Sedo is countered with something like 50k or 200k. If the auction hadnt happend yet I could have been buying up all good names right now for $xxx maximum.

Are you all saying that there are no more good domains that could be hand regged, I just registered weathercam.mobi which in my opinion is a very good domain because every city has a weather cam and it fits perfectly with .mobi for people on the go who want to see the weather conditions. Don’t give up so soon on finding a domain yourselves, you just have to look in the right direction.

I think there are still good names to be hand regged but they are harder to find now. What I was saying is that I dont think something hand regged right now will be worth 5 or 6 figures the minute you finish regging it. WeatherCam.mobi is a good name, but I wouldnt say its worth 100k right now. Even weathercam.com probably wouldnt be worth 100k. It will take time for these mobi names to reach good price levels. Some people are regging stuff like MySuperGreatBargainCasinoDeals.mobi which wouldnt be worth anything even in .com and trying to sell it for 5 figures.

Guys, if you're interested in picking up some quality names, take a look at my portfolio (in the link below)

The good names aren't cheap, but talk to Jeremy and several others I've dealt with -- not unreasonable either.

No offense...but...I certainly didn't mean for this to turn into a "buy my mobi's" thread, I believe there are other threads specifically for that purpose.

I think I will stop acquiring and turn my focus towards developing my mobis.

I think .mobi holders believe .mobi will surpass .net.org.info in value because it has "real" usage, that's why the high prices. MOST peeps here never had names as good as these with real potential, mysef included. I look at the crap.coms (with not even one incoming link) selling for $1000-5000 everywhere and I too feel my .mobis are much better. Look at ebay for .mobi names and you'll see crazy bin prices.

my 2 cents

Haha. What are you guys talking about?

I don't see any panic selling going down.

hmmmm. OK, limited time offer! I'm selling hvd.mobi $89k! I would sell it for $90k but I took off a grand because I'm a nice guy and this is such a great community.

Limited time! AHH!

Good thread.

Most of my names are hand-regged. But, I have been buying on the aftermarket & making inquiries. Many responses range from absurd to no response at all even with offers into mid to high 4 figures.

It's early in the game & I can understand sellers holding out to see what the market will bear. However in any type of sales, it is useful to see the buyer's perspective. .mobi is NOT a proven extension. Investments made now might become quite valuable, or they might be worth close to nothing. For a buyer to assume that risk this early in the game, there is an expectation of a discount - or at least of not paying a premium.

So often on these boards, I see talk about end users in relation to price expectations. The reality of it is that if the asking price is too high, you likely ARE the end user. Fine... if you are in a position to (possibly) lose all or most of your investment. How many really are?
