Upon pondering the Sportsbook.mobi sale I came to realize that the only comparison is flowers.mobi. This post is meant to discuss the market of mobi not to bash it or questions it's validity. I want to have an honest discussion of these 2 sales as a comparison.

When sportsbook.mobi was announced as a $xxx, xxx sale I thought it very possible since the sportsbook arena is a massive possibilty for mobile money. The bucks are there. IMHO it SHOULD have sold for more than flowers.mobi. However it didn't so I wonder why. Does anyone else think that sportsbook.mobi would be worth more than flowers.mobi? Sports betting is huge and the ability to place bets from the comfort of your phone along with odds and up-to-the-minute information could be enormous.

Also the recent weirdness of mobi and sedo on their auctions....what's up with that? Sedo says they are auctioning premium Mobi names...mTLD says they are not? So what's the truth?

Obviously there is a market for mobi...in just a few short months commanding 2 $xxx, xxx sales is imho unprecedented. Whether you believe in mobi and it's future is irrelevent...because others believe in it. They believe enough to fork over hard cash too. Any domainer that didn't get a pile of solid keywords from day one is surely feeling a bit of remorse right now.

So...back to the real questions.
Do you think sportsbook.mobi is worth more than Flowers.mobi?

I believe that this was the third six figure .mobi sale.

Anyway, to make things simpler, if I had a choice between Flowers.com and Sportsbook.com, I'd go for Flowers.com. Likewise, I would favor Flowers.mobi over Sportsbook.mobi.

Ahh..I was just informed of fun.mobi which sold for $100k at Traffic East. I forgot about that as it was dwarfed by Flowers.mobi.

They are both great names for the extension. The OVT for flowers is 3047664 which is just incredible. Sportsbook does not even come close with an OVT of 12159.

I think as fully developed websites flowers.mobi will have more users but bring in less money per user than sportsbook.mobi.

If I had my pick, I would choose flowers.mobi over sportsbook.mobi. The OVT is so large in this case, I think it is the deciding factor for me.

Fun.mobi is a great name too, but I don't think it has the earning potential of the other two.

Well with Flowers.mobi, there were qualified buyers gathered in an auction setting, including industry endusers, and there, winner took all. SportsBook.mobi was a negotiated sale. Personally I think had SportsBook.mobi been in a likewise setting as Flowers.mobi, with industry related bidders, this would have gone a lot higher. I imagine one of the reasons the buyer of SportsBook.mobi made their move now for it, was their interest in getting it off the market now, before other competitors became aware of it and it got a lot pricier. SportsBook.mobi is going to be one big money maker once cellphone type of betting becomes commonplace.

I would choose "sportsbook" (I love sports and risks) over "flowers" (that's for the ladies and signorinas, mademoiselles) ---

seriously, from a biz position, I would choose "sportsbook" despite the OVT, etc, as MOBILE GAMING will be enormous --- that's why I'm selling any "gaming" names just right now --- I feel some of the other "gamble" names should've gotten more ka-ching --- but they were still great ROIs

Good analysis and I agree. I also think that if buyer was parking that Flowers.mobi would be more valuable than Sportsbook.mobi. As you can see that Flowers.mobi is parked and just getting click revenue. I think judging from comments the buyer has sound belief in mobi and is buying with particular vehemence.

rather, that's why I'm NOT selling any gambling names just now --

but will - on another day

just because 1 person pays an extremely huge amount for 1 name (flowers.mobi) doesnt mean that any equivalent quality name should sell for equal or more than it. I see horrible .com names sell for huge amounts all the time on dnjournal and names that are 10x better than it selling for way less. If bill gates was crazy and bought bill.mobi off of someone for 3 million dollars just for the hell of it that wouldnt mean that any mobi name with a keyword better than bill is automatically worth over 3 million now. By the way sportsbook.com gets more monthly visitors than flowers.com I think. I think more people would bet on sports from their cellphone than order flowers. Flowers has higher OVT but that is for a computer and not mobile device. Both names are obviously good though.

Excellent question Labrocca.

Hawkeye hit the nail on the head with his analysis - if both names were being sold on the same stage rather than one being a private deal, the value of sportsbook could have been higher.

That said, flowers is the more internationally recognised name - sportsbook is more focused and ought to pay many times more per customer, with more repeat business.

Flowers will always be a huge market - we can't say with total surety that gambling will always be so....if I was fortunate enough to be in the market for either name, my head would tell me to play it safe and go with flowers - but I have a reckless streak in me, so I'd take a bet and go for sportsbook.....or would I ?

Fantastic deal BTW - the seller and his agent must have balls of steel, I reckon I would have caved in around the $50k mark!
