Are you ever concerned that a name you are about to let drop, (or sell cheaply), will get picked up, and that someone will do well with it, or in a worse case scenario, the new owner iends up doing *very* well with it and is using it as you had originally envisioned? "Damn, my 1st impression- that original idea- was right after all- it does work !"

I have never let anything "big" get away (relative to what I call "big" in my portfolio), and I haven't seen one of my ex-DNs go on to stardom, but there are a couple of names I wouldn't mind having back.

I'll kick it off w/ one of them. Not crying over this, mind you, this particular one is a .ws, after all, but still...
Lamps.ws.
Sold it for $25-$30 when I dumped all of my .ws domains, but wouldn't mind having it now, to use w/ my lamp design business. Have a couple others, but Lamps.ws is first to come to mind.
Anyone else?

:( Yeah, that really stinks... I'm not much of a domain seller, but yeah, it really stinks when that happens to people :(

I have sold them before... but later got them back when the person couldnt be bothered to use them properly, so got them back for free!! And now am earning money with pay per click on Sedo!

Not a bad story :)

The same thing happened to me as well!
My software website at skylam.com
Used to be receiving more than 50,000 unique visits a month! I sold this along with my software business for $3000.00 US!

Not yet. I made a sale in 2001 that I slightly regretted in 2002(only slightly cause it was a nice sale :) ).

I got my SE rankings back with a different site in 2003, so I didn't regret it at all anymore.

I don't think I have let anything really good go. I have seen a couple of names a thought were no good go and found them for sale later. They may have picked them up but as to anyone giving them more money for them that may be a different story.

I've picked up a couple names I've sold that the buyer let drop. One of them was just a couple weeks ago, and I didn't remember I even had it until I saw it was in my sold database.

Two I've picked up that I previously sold are:

MyPetPhoto.com
The4thofJuly.com

They aren't spectacular, but are good $100 domains.

I really don't have any I wish I hadn't sold yet, but I do have some offers I wish I hadn't turned down. I was once offered $1200 for Photo4Kids.com (and PhotoForKids.com) that I held out for too much on. That was back in the big dot-com boom. Now, I'd probably accept $300 for them.

I have one that maybe I should have haggled more on. When I first stated, it was at the tail end of the good dropos before all the snapping started. I picked up numerous uneventful one word domains. One of the domains was postured.com. I was contacted and sold it for $125.00. Not bad for a $8 investment. Well, I was listening to the radio one night while driving and a commercial came on the air for Posture-D, and guess what address they use? Sure enough, one of my old domains is being used commercially. Win some, lost some, but it's still profit.

Well said DomainQuest.
In contrast. I'm sure there have been more than a few good names (maybe a couple off not so good ones, also) that have been sold for top dollar, where the buyer failed to capitalize on the the name's inherent potential. From the perspective of the buyer, he/she probably later thought they had overpaid, despite the fact that the problem most likely was with how the domain was marketed.
