Do you ever begin with 'The'?

I believe it's the rule never to begin your domain with 'The'.

I've tried two-word names which sound better as 'The Two Words' but they show much lower valuations.

Have you ever managed to find the exception to the rule?

It stuck in my mind from a long time ago watching 'The Social Network' movie where a tech investor was leaving
the FB office and saw the big 'The Facebook' logo up on the wall.

He turned round to Mark Zuckerberg and said "Lose 'The'."

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Have you visited Namebio.com yet? :xf.smile:

Keyword : the
Placement: At the start

You get to see more search results if you register (free). And of course you need a mental filter to exclude words like 'therapists'.

If its 'The Word', its two words and then i believe they have value.

But if it's 'The Two Words', it becomes three words totally and lengthy and thus the demand and value goes down.

Thanks. I've just signed up, but the results are blurred over after a couple of goes.

It showed just under 23,000 dot coms which I guess is quite small, in the scheme of things.

Thanks. Yes, it would make it three words, but it sounds like we would say it as an event :

like TheGrandPrix .....

I'm tempted to double up on it but I don't want to get sucked into spending half of my budget on 'covers',

and then I worry that a potential buyer might just swerve round it and buy The Two Words

I've sold TheBetLab recently for 2k. Doable but must be a good name. Better off with The+1 word.

Only have one domain The + Word.com and one domain that is Go + Keyword.com

There is some value, but it's like .net, better without.

thedefaimetaagentics is still available for registration in .com
Great news! It will make a great cover for defaimetaagentics //com that I regged this morning. :xf.laugh:

Thanks everyone for your input.

Is there a correct term for when you use a second domain for 'cover' like that?

TheDomains is one of my favorite domain blogs.

I’m sorry, but this is a pointless thread.

If [word] .com is taken, i’d register The[word]com but i’ve never had to do this.

I've sold 'The+Keyword' dotcom directly to Disney and other Hollywood companies.
In Hollywood and the Creative sectors the term convention has a lot of value.

At the same time, in SaaS, finance, and other non-Hollywood sectors 'the' is often a distraction from the most simplified version of the end-users brand.

Please be aware that this is not financial advice nor copyright advice so do your own research please. It would appear that although the content of a book is copyrighted, the title of the book is not which is why there may over the last 200 years be several books with the same titles. Some of these books get made into movies, and like the books, there may be several movies with the same title. Song titles too I believe i.e. 'The Power of Love' covered by - Huey Lewis & The News, Jennifer Rush, Celine Dion and Frankie Goes to Hollywood to name a few.

I have approximately 130 such domains so I'm hoping I will be in 'The Money' and not in 'The Sh1t' LOL!!!

I'm sure it is to many of you seasoned domainers - but if you can bear with me I'm 9 days in!

Having looked through the lists of expired domains which would be Premium names if you just added
two letters and took away a number "if my aunt had a 'pair' she would be a great uncle" type of stretching reality.

Just trying to not pi$$ my dollars up the wall like so many obviously have.

Thanks for the input on the one-word. (y)

I've sold a few "The" + 2 words. I don't mind adding these types of names as long as the words make sense.

I will agree with many here, the+one word .com can have a lot of value, but it has to make sense. I have sold several. TheBoss, TheBest, TheRich... many times it makes a lot of sense. It is not usually going to be worth as much as the one single word but still can have a lot of value.

TheEnd.com would be pretty cool to have.

I wrote in the NamePros Blog about domain names beginning with THE in 2022, including some of the big sales and famous use cases. Clearly there have been various sales since then.

https://www.namepros.com/blog/domain-names-starting-with-the.1269690/

Should also be noted that in the unfiltered keyword list from Afternic each month THE is usually at, or near top.

I'd write more, but I am reading The Globe and Mail, Canada's foremost national newspaper, right now. :xf.grin: One place The finds particular use is in media and newspaper names.

All of that said, I don't think I personally own a single name in my portfolio that begins with The.

Have the best day possible, everyone.

Thanks Bob.

I did have a search about but I didn't find that thread. I'll head there now.

Enjoy your Sunday.
