Just curious if anyone has found a real gem in the $5 closeout section. Whether it's traffic that was understated or you sold the name a week or a month later for high profit.. I'd like to hear your story!

When TDNAM first released the $5 BIN section, I was making out like a bandit.... Here are a few I managed to Snag at $5 + Renewal (And there was a discount code, making these about $11) Here are a few of my Favorites pickups:

AlabamaUsedCars<dot>com - did very well with traffic, and made its money back in about a week. It still does decently.
Dreamier<dot>com
StrongFeelings<dot>com
IFZU<dot>com
OXZU<dot>com
RoomAccessories<dot>com (my fav pickup from BIN)
ResultsThatLast<dot>com
ListingExpert<dot>com
CreditEnhance<dot>com
WorkRemotely<dot>com (My 2nd Fav)
LoseThatGut<dot>com
FeaturePreviews<dot>com
Vegetated<dot>com
FreshConcrete<dot>com
vSchooling<dot>com (which I flipped immediately)
MicroWineries<dot>com
RevenueDriver<dot>com (Also flipped immediately)

LoL. Plenty of people did very well when those first came out. I remember when there was a hand full of people all waiting for a domain to go to BIN - then it was like a race. Kept updating my browser waiting for it to hit. I cant tell you how many times I just missed one because someone beet me to it! Those were the days before anyone realized how the system was working.

The best one I ever picked up was ClassSettlement.com for $5 plus reg fee. For about 6 months last year I went there every day and picked up 4 letter .com's that were either semi-pronouncable or had good letter quality. Looking back I shouldn't have been quite so discriminating. Now of course 4 letter .com's never make the $5 BIN.

I did get one name from the BIN list that literally made its money back within 30 minutes of parking, I still have the name several months later and its still good for a couple dollars a day.

I still pick up $5 BINs every day... and I'm not into chasing after a domain as soon as it hits BIN because of my time difference. So some get snatched (by Justin presumably).

I have purchased 100+ names through $5 listings last year, and mostly sold in mid $xx - mid $xxx range and 3 for low $xxxx range.

But as more and more domainers came in, I have switched my attention to the tdnam expired domains auction.

Unfortunately it has gotten harder to find names due to increased competition & people unnecessarily bidding during the auction period. I have done well though with the closeouts as I have sold many for $xxx & have made a nice profit parking a certain niche of names.

So how long ago was tdnam such a goldmine? I came into domaining in Jan 06.

they use to have legitimate PR4 domains that I was able to snag.
Now nadda.
You use to find targetted traffic sites, use to be 200-300 a month.
Now you're lucky if it has 75!

the $5 bin is dead.
too many people are willing to gamble on $10 names + renew fee

Im trying to remember when the $5 BIN was started.
My first domain from the BIN section was given to me on 2/26/2007
Which indicates the auction was roughly 10 days prior. So sometime in Feb 2007 is when they started that. You had about 5-6 months of clear sailing before a lot of people caught on.

Best I ever did on a TDNAM $5 domain was $210 ... but I got one for $50 there once, & sold it for $2K. :)
