discuss Ever buy a name because of sentimental value? Is that the future of some high priced sales?

We see people spend a lot of money on early electronics and old books. They won't use it but it means something to them. I personally monitor a few domains that if I buy will just hold because they mean something to me. For example, one is a website I use to visit often in the late 90's.

I imagine a future far away that domains will be auctioned not for its use but because of some history attached to them.

So, do you own any names that you got just for sentimental value? Are you watching such domains?

Sure, over the years I've acquired first+last name domains of some of my family members for sentimental value, but then years later dropped them, due to no interest in developing them into Resumes, Bios, Blogs, etc.....

It was a silly sentimental waste of money for me, really.

A lot of investors do this.

For example, their name or the names of their children in .com.

Perhaps similar to collecting antiques, some names gain a second life as provenance assets once their past traffic, backlinks, and cultural footprint become part of the story collectors want.

Funny banner, I've kept the first domain I've hand registered and old developed sites I've thought of reviving. Used to monitor names related to my developments but not for a while now, just names from old watchlists that pop up occasionally.

Just recently the name of my youngest sister was up for sale at only $1200. I was tempted to purchase. Waited too long and now they want $20,000.

Almost all of my domains are registered because I personally like them and could use them for future projects. I do not have as many names as almost all of you, I do have some commercial domains and domains that have since become company names and even some of those are abandoned companies now.

Most are short, most are memorable and most are .com. I have a few .US but that are just mostly for having.
