First of all, I am not a domainer by any stretch.

I own MVPFitness.com and MVPForum.com. I am a pesonal trainer who wanted to someday set up a studio for athletic training and sports specific training - specifically for kids.

Due to several reasons too long to go into here, I want to move towards the stay-at-home mom niche and add a physical therapist, etc. to my studio staff.

I have been looking for a good domain, and I found ZenFitness.com which seems to fit the bill. I have several other choices (unregistered) that work almost as good, but I do like this one probably the best.

I was told it is for sale (with a website behind it) for $5000. I am not paying that by any means.

However, I have told the guy I would think about trading both of my domains for his, and I'd even throw in a couple hundred bucks.

This to me seems like a win-win, but I'd like your opinion. He gets at least a comparable omain, plus the added forum domain as well as a few hundred.

I actually think from a domain standpoint alone, my MVPFitness domain is more marketable and worth more then ZenFitness, but that is just my opinion. Sports training is huge and I think this domain hits the nail on the head. There are several other sports training facilities around the country that are very similar, including the .net version, which brings me some traffic.

Do you think I am offering too much? Is this a fair trade? The guy would get to keep his website content an apply it to the MVP site, so nothing on that point either.

Thanks for evaluating this. I haven't heard back from him yet, but I do have other choices that are almost as good and cost me reg fee.

ZenFitness.com is just 2 images and a link to email him about buying it.

If there was any content before and he is going to keep using it, I wouldn't be paying much for it.

I would say the domains are a fair trade, but I don't see a site..

Yes, he offered to show me the content if I was interested. By his description, it includes:

Daily Nutrition Journal
Exercise Journal
Nutrition Database
Personal Trainer Referral Service (Trainers may register and post their profile)

But I have no need for the content at all. I am not going in that direction if I were to purchase the domain. So I told him he could keep the content, as it would also apply to the MVP site.

I am talking strictly a trade for the domain names (my two for his one). My wife thinks I am actually overpaying for it, especially since I added $200 to the equation, but I felt it would help since I am essentially an end-user and he seems to be a domainer for profit. In either case, I'd be happy with the deal, and assumed he would be further ahead as well.

thanks for your thoughts.

It's a good trade for an end-user IMHO. Google has a lot more results for "Zen Fitness" than "MVP Fitness". Neither has Overture results (which is basically search engine popularity).

You think it fits your niche perfectly and I agree. "Zen" is a much better term for kids and women since "MVP" is considered a men's sports term. Both are very brandable. I wouldn't even consider the "value" of the domains, although they are both good and somewhat valuable domains. MVP may be worth a little more, but only due to the larger market for men's fitness.

Look at it this way... you are basically getting your desired business name for around $250 (if you include your reg fees at GoDaddy for both MVP names). You could solicit MVPFitness.net and try to sell them the .com for more than $5000 and also try to talk the seller of ZenFitness.com down, but it wouldn't be worth the effort. I don't think your or his domain is worth that much. Just take the deal and be happy with it. It's a great name!

BTW, I advise you to take any website content he's offered in the deal. It could save you money later if some portion of it could be repurposed for your site. I really like his banner and logo (I'd take that too).

Good luck!

I do appreciate the response. I would answer that MVP fits the sports market, while Zen fits the yoga, pilates market. I think they both are very brandable in their own niche and decent fitness names.

I would point to the following as examples (and possible future buyers of this domain):

http://www.mvpsportscenters.com
http://www.mvpsportsclub.com
http://www.mvplifestyle.com
http://www.mvptaekwondo.com
http://www.MVPFitness.net
http://www.mvpsportstraining.com
http://www.mvpsportskc.com

Any other opinions???

I slightly prefer MVPFitness.com to ZenFitness.com, but for the niche you're targeting the latter will work better, so I see why you want to swap. A straight swap one-for-one would be fair enough.

MVPForum.com is another good domain, but in a different area (sports talk). Adding this to the deal skews it in his favour, even without the cash adjustment.

However, he has no reason to do a fair swap; the deal needs to be skewed in his favour to justify him getting involved. Often you have to pay over-the-odds to motivate someone to sell, and what a name's worth to you may be more than its default market value.

Yes, you're over-paying, but if you really want ZenFitness.com then you should go ahead.

What am I, chopped liver?

LOL. Not at all. In fact, you gave the most detailed response and I appreciated the time you took. I was hoping to hear from a handful of people so that I might point the owner of Zen in this direction so that he would see a fair representation of opinion on the subject.

I like chopped liver by the way. It gets a bum rap.
