I have been looking into posting on a number of free web directories, specifically ones that do not require me to place a link back to them because recip. links do not appear to work as well as one way links (which makes sense).

Has anyone had any experience with doing this to help se rankings? Does it make a big difference?

any thoughts help

thanks.

Hello,

I used to submit my site to about 5-10 high ranking directories a day and got a little traffic (worth it for the time spent ) and quite a few backlinks.

I would say go for it and spend about 5-10 mins a day submitting.

manually submitt your site as you see some people offering to submit to 100,000 for $1.95 (personally i dont think it works)

If you only spend 5-10 mins a day it does not seem so bad.

I'll pm you a list of pr6-8 directories to get you started.(in a we while)

Thanks.

be careful with this. google can penalize your site in the rankings if you found in known link farms. also, some directories use your submissions merely to collect email addresses, which are later spammed to oblivion.

Yeah, it's a complete waste of time..

im just getting set up and since im using adsense hits are money so im gonna spend for the next week up to 3 hours a day submitting to directories

and by the way the best way to get on SEs is not to submit but to be on a directory that they crawl and get linked to your site but you may want to submit anyway if your just getting set up

general diretories get you some one-way permanent links. Niche directories will get you some traffic.

anyone know of any 'niche' directories then? :)

niche directories are topic-specific. Search for "keywords directory" will do.

All I got out of it was tons of spam. I recommend that you use your judgement and only submit to the "Quality" sites.

I agree, but one way incoming links never hurt. Show me one example when somebody was penalized for a one way link. If you link to my website, from a link farm, do you mean I will get penalized ? This way everybody will link to their competitors from link farms.

Same is the case with guestbook and blog comments spam. The linked websites do not get the benefit, but they do not get penalized either. This does not mean guestbook or comment spam is good.

But Directory links are good as per me. Just my 2c. I have been in SEO since 1999.

I maintain a list of quality diretories, updated monthly. I just updated yesterday. These directories are worth submitting your websites to.

See the list at www.directorysource.info

I find listing in good niche directories to work well. Definitely worth taking a bit of time out each week to do.

I used this guy "westhaven". He submitted my site to a lot of directories.

He did link submissions and so.

That is effective, recived some traffic, always worth a try.
