Hi all!

We’ve created this thread to make it easier to communicate with us here on Namepros, and we’ll also be posting regular updates on our offers and products. Please feel free to share any feedback and suggestions with us, or to let us know if there’s anything we can assist with.

We’d like to kick things off with an extension of our $7.99 .COM transfer sale, the code “COMTRANS4” has been extended until 23:59 PST on May 31, and there’s no limit on how many domains you can transfer using the code. Every month we have great prices on a wide selection of domains, and you can find a full list of our sales here:

https://www.dynadot.com/sales.html

We’re also excited to share that our CEO, Todd Han, will be hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) right here on Namepros in the near future, with more information on a date and time coming soon.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I think the inflated bid should actually be the baseline. The second auction should be a Dutch auction from the price that the 2nd highest bidder of the first auction didn’t accept. Then the winning bid cannot go higher, so at least it’s not in Dynadot’s interest to rerun the auction.

This looks very interesting, @Jannes , but for the future. Changing the rules in the middle of an ongoing situation would be both legally questionable and unfair to everyone, IMHO.

-If both the first and second place bidders don't pay, the domain will simply be re-auctioned from the lowest price (Typically $7.99 + the renewal cost) at a later date.
Thanks very much for your clear answer that addresses the points people were wondering about, particularly how the re-auction would work.
As Todd (and Richard) mentioned, the collusion scam had been a big problem in the past so this current system seems the best to mitigate this, and the 5% deposit even more so, but if you have other suggestions we're open to them.
Good to have that confirmed, and I hope someone will be able to suggest ways to further improve the system.

It struck me that the 48 hr seems really tight for large amounts, particularly for buyers in certain parts of the world. I do realize they bid and that should mean have the money at the ready, but if the amount is more than credit card, bank transactions take longer in some parts of the world. Just an opinion.

Thanks again for the answer.

Bob

I hope Dynadot give consideration to your suggestion for the future, as I think it has a lot of merit. Dutch auction approaches in general would remove much of the potential for abuse in domain auctions.

The response from the @Dynadot rep in this thread is absurd.

Gaming the system by using multiple bidders isn’t the issue since @Dynadot verifies ALL bidders! You banned him, great, no scam.

Now that there can’t be scams anymore, how do you justify using a non-paying, perhaps non-serious bidder against legit ones? That is precisely what you’re doing by banning a bidder but accepting their bids as valid.

@Dynadot is clearly on the take or they would throw out bids when there is a fake bidder.

Hey everyone sorry for the delay, just got home from NamesCon and am catching up.

Not a whole lot more I can add to the discussion that hasn't been said already from Todd and the team, but just wanted to post some key points to clear up any confusion on how our system works/what happened:

-When someone wins the auction, they have 48 hours to pay, and if it goes above a certain amount they must both deposit a 5% fee which is forfeited upon an unpaid auction, as well as a ban from using our auction platform.
-We give every winner exactly 48 hours to pay, with some small exceptions such as if we receive confirmation of incoming payment from a bank wire or something similar, but for the most part it's a solid 48 hours.
-If the winner does not pay, we offer the domain to the second place bidder at their most recent bid for 24 hours. This is by no means enforced/have any consequences if they decide not to pay.
-If both the first and second place bidders don't pay, the domain will simply be re-auctioned from the lowest price (Typically $7.99 + the renewal cost) at a later date. The Last Chance auction does not even give the second place bidder the option to pay for these ones (it will just be re-auctioned again from the bottom if the winner again fails to pay)
-I did look into this one personally, and this user did have a clean record of buying and paying for auctions from us in the past, but this time simply wasn't able to produce the funds in time. But I can confirm they have both been banned from auctions as well as having their 5% deposit forfeited.
- As Todd (and Richard) mentioned, the collusion scam had been a big problem in the past so this current system seems the best to mitigate this, and the 5% deposit even more so, but if you have other suggestions we're open to them.

Hope that clears everything up, but let me know if you need me to elaborate on anything.
You banned a bidder from the platform but used the very bids they placed. See the irony and bad form there?!

Agree. When I send funds to Dynadot (internationally) it usually takes about 3 days.

The highest bid which defaulted was from a VERIFIED account according to Dynadot.

It also seems like the bidder had to deposit some amount of money to bid up to the amount they did.

That deposit will be FORFEITED.

So this was a legitimate bidder that failed to pay. It happens sometimes. Nothing new. The second bidder can either pay for the domain or not. Not a big deal.

Agreed, I wouldn't like to be in the situation where my bank refused the payment until some fraud checks were completed first, potentially taking several days (my bank in the UK is notorious for this).

Banning an account after just 48 hours seems a bit excessive, especially considering they had a good track record previously.

There is some leniency if you contact them (from experience).

Hey Bob! In some cases we do provide some leniency, such as if the buyer contacts us before the end time with an explanation (within reason) or if they can provide Wire confirmation that payment is arriving so we can put a hold on the payment window.

Todd added some fuel to the fire by referring to the domain’s market value

Yup, @Dynadot is on the take. It’s sad that folks here seem to think their process in this case is anything but WRONG!

The rest from his post at X…

“In this case if we had removed all the bids of the high bidder, the auction would have closed at 12k instead of 30k. That didn't seem reflective of the market value…”

Edit/Update: I decided to give it one more try and I was able to log in to the pricing level. I've got no clue what has caused the issue. I was told that there was a bug and it had been repaired. There is still an open ticket from the first time this happened...it surprises me that it does not show on their end...it seems they would want it cleared.

Hi @Caleb Tweed, If a domain has more than 15 characters (including .extension), then in the mobile view on landing pages the text does not fit on one line. Could you please fix this.
Hi @Caleb Tweed, it's been almost a year and this still hasn't been resolved.

@Caleb Tweed I am setting up my afternic bins to reflect on dyandot marketplace. So I go to manage My Domains, select all my domains, Then to the drop down Sell Domain, Then SELL ON AFTERNIC.

This is where I get confused, because I want to sell on Dynadot, and link those afternic inputted bins, but just following thru, if I click sell on afternic, I log into my afternic thru the dynadot link, then what? Is this the right procedure, given afternic is so fragile, I really don't want to mess up at this last step? AS the confusion lies in the interpertation I am selling on afternic, and not linking my afternic domains into the dynadot marketplace. Thank You

Howdy! So yes that's the right direction, once you hit "Sell on Afternic" you're prompted to link your Afternic account with your Dynadot one. After that you can just list your names on Afternic right from the Dynadot Dash (provided they aren't already on Afternic) by hitting "Sell on Afternic" again and just entering the sale price in the field.

If you're still unsure, shoot me a DM and I can show you how it's done.
