i know this has been discussed but i am having a brain fart-

i know to host your own videos or have users upload tthem, it is a ton of bandwidth- but if you have a site, and imbed videos from another site, and a lot of people watch them, is that the same? or does it use the bandwidth from the other site?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

It uses bandwidth from the other site that is actually hosting/streaming the video, and the associated bandwidth "cost" would not apply to your site.

so it would be the same - if 50 people were reading text or 50 people were watching videos- it would not affect my site, right?

As the video is hosted by other site, and you are just projecting it, in terms videos, your bandwidth will not be affected.

you can upload your videos on youtube for example and embed them on your site. It's their bandwidth that's used for streaming the movies.

Better use YouTube's bandwidth than your own :hehe:

well i think this is going to work for my own parked pages and small sites i am going to set up for sale- i would still want original stuff ffor a site i am keeping-

we can just take video from places that uploads users video right? like, if oprah was running video on her site showing her shows, we could not embed that right?

Youtube will give you bandwidth, but they will also supply ad's, and whatever else they want. Not saying the alternative is better, but its worthy to note.

yep- realize that- like i said, i am going to make a few of my own parked pages, and just wanted to throw a video or two in there-
i am also going to develop a few, but develop for sale- and need a few vids for that too- this way a buyer has a set up site, and can switch vids for their own, but i can add some content, build some traffic, and ask for more money :)

Smash,

Check this out - Google new Video Ads model

http://www.google.com/ads/videoadsolutions/demos.html

Youtube/Google now encourage you to upload and utilize their bandwidth for free. Your site will not need to spend a penny on bandwidth, and they will earn money from the Ads embeded on videos.

(It's both good and bad. it means you will have many competitors. However, a nice .TV name will worth much more in that case. )

As a similar idea, You can also embed brightcove , mogulus, and overlay
in your site as well.

Hope this help :)

Smash,
The real downside with embedded YouTube videos is not with the ads. It's with the way YouTube's designed the embedded video player.

If someone clicks on the embedded video they exit your site and go to YouTube, that's the downside. If your visitor changes the controls, they go to YouTube. So you may get someone come to your site and start to watch your first video, but then be spirited away to YouTube. And that's the reason why YouTube let's you embed its videos. It's like salting a gold mine. They give you a little, but end up getting your visitor for the long haul. You can bet once the visitor is whisked away to YouTube they'll stay there and watch the next 10 videos on YouTube. They'll probably forget your site even exists!

Better to host your own video. The YouTube trade-off has always been too severe a penalty to pay in my mind, and you don't have to really. You can now get broadband hosting deals that will allow you to host your own video and have up to 14,000 unique visitors a month watch, say, 30 to 40 5-8MB Flash clips ... at a cost of about $200 per annum. I reckon that's pretty good. And when you're starting a .TV site, you wouldn't be getting anywhere near 14,000 uniques a month, so that's ample bandwidth to play with. (If you were getting 14,000 a month then the advertising would be paying for the bandwidth).

Hope this is helpful.

:)

Rodash,

Thanks for sharing the Info. Truely, been redirected to Youtube site is really an issue for a TV site owner. Just a personal thought that Google possibly will change this very soon since they started the new InVideo model which need to encourage more users to use its videos. Of course, no one can predict the future. Let's what happen then :)

BTW, Do you try Brightcove before ? There are some pretty cool sites using them. i.e fuse.tv and fuel.tv
I am wondering how much they will charge to setup a TV site ?

You profit off the ads though, if you have an adsense account
