One of sites that I want to develop would be where the public could send in a two minute video camera footage of their truck for sale and it would then convert to streaming video over the net.

Question 1. - Does anyone know if it is cheaper to get the software that would allow me to personally do the transfer myself (and if yes, which software package) or get a company to do it for me, lets assume for the time being that the next three months I would need to convert 60 videos.....which is more cost efective? (and what company would you recommend....

I am not really techy at all, so pleas take that into account when recommeding which route I take.

Question 2 . The next question is whom do I host with?? how much does it cost me when viewers watch these streaming videos?? Or is it free other than the monthly bandwidth fees....

Many thanks in advance for all replies.

There are so many avenues

The one I am going with is converting people's one/two minute digital video film that they send me through the mail, Iwill then do the downloading, then encoding, then uploading onto my website.....this is good if you have a start up website, and not expecting volumes of digital video footage....

I am lucky enough that I have a friend at work who will train me tomorrrow morning on how to use the software t do this.......SORENSON SQUEEZE is the one I am gonna use...supposed to be really good.

Another route is to have people send their video footage to a company that will encode and upload for you, but beware, so far the cheapest I have found is $27.99 per video - so see if that will fall into your business plan or whether that will make your business plan fall - certainly mine cannot go that route.

A third option would be to pay for some bandwidth on a flash server where viewers would themselves upload video footage onto that server and you could then transfer that footage to your website......

My knowledge is really scetchy on this topic, but that is the gist of it that I have been told by my good friend Argos!!

There are, I am sure , many more ways to achieve your aims, keep checking through this forum, especially previous threads started by Wineguy!!

Good luck

What domain are you planning on streaming video from?

MILLERSCROSSING,

Download the free trial of this encoder, http://www.on2.com/ , I used it to convert the video for WineCountry.TV , easy to use and the full version after trial is only $249.

Also here are some options from Hotscripts.com:

http://www.hotscripts.com
http://www.flash-video-mx.com/video_to_flash_web/purchase/
http://www.video-to-flash-encoder.com/
http://www.sothink.com/product/flashvideoencoder/index.htm
http://www.streamitnow.com/

I can't give an endorsement to any of these except on2 but the price is right as far as budgets go.

Cheers!
