I wanted to try either Dreamhost or Peoplehost for a few small simple sites, all needing less than 300 MB space, no particularly high bandwidth or extras, very simple stuff.
I haven't heard ANYTHING about Peoplehost, but I was wondering about them since Namecheap treats domainers so well, esp with customer support. Anyone have direct experience with them? I know the general rule of 'don't host with a registrar and don't register dn's with a host', but I was still wondering about Peoplehost...

And I've heard good things in passing about Dreamhost, can anyone fill me in on them... not so much about their features and prices since I can read all about those on site, but rather about the QUALITY of their service: real-world-uptime, customer support, general efficiency, etc.

Thanks for any help. Ban

Glad I asked, since I was about to try them. Anyone you wholeheartedly recommend? It's all small simple stuff, with Frontpage and Dreamweaver.

I have'nt had any problems with dreamhost yet. I run about 5 websites with about 40 users online at once and never have any problems. never had problems with scripts yet either.

thanks Jeremy;
2 conflicting reports, so I'll definitely need more input. Perhaps Microdude's experience has been with much larger sites than I would be using, and more detailed scripts? I won't be using any custom scripts, and can't even see having as many users at once as you do, so perhaps DH would still be very good for me; I read a post at a popular webhost review forum that said they highly recommended using DH.
I'd like more input, or even for anyone to suggest a host they're 100% hot on for quality, service, etc.

Great info, thanks, I read the whole thing/s. Who do you recommend, if you don't mind?
I'll start checking into HostingZoom too, based on the glowing things mentioned about them in that post...

I'm using Dreamhost, and they've been very nice. There were some functions that they disabled because of security reasons, but there are always alternatives for those functions. They use a proprietary control panel, not the standard cPanel, but you'll get used to it as you go by. Some things you have to do on your own, but they would help if they can.

Regarding phpLinkDirectory, I was able to run it successfully on their server. There are minor issues when installing, which are quickly resolved anyway.

What I like about them is the fact that I can host multiple domains on one account, which is very convenient to me, and a very affordable solution for me as well as opposed to getting separate hosting accounts for each domain I have.

thanks Momo for your direct experience with them. More good input..

Yes, that's one of the reasons I was looking at them, nice to have the unlimited domains, especially since I have a lot of small ones I want hosted. I'm going to do a lot more investigating, however, of them and some others.

I'm an actual user of dreamhost and can speak directly about the service i have recieved first hand.I have multiple sites and used them for months.
Uptime has been great, service great, price even better. There are coupons to be had that make the price of your first year next to nil.
There is a 97 day money back guarentee should someone be unsatisfied.

Great testament, thanks 'trader. I'm getting the idea so far that Dreamhost is okay, but that, like any service that gets a lot of users, there are always some users who do have bad experiences with them... which you can't help with such large numbers, there are bound to be some.
The 97-day guarantee is nice, but only works if you pay by cc, but that's okay since I will be.

I've been using Dreamhost for a few months - no complaints here :) Their uptime is good, and support have always been quick to respond to any queries.

You'll notice that a lot of criticisms come from people who havn't actually tried the service ;)

I've got close to 80 sites on Dreamhost, would never have a bad thing to say about them. Would highly recommend them to anyone... support is fast when needed, tons of space/bandwidth for the price.

I wouldn't switch away from them if someone paid me to!

:hehe:

Thanks for the feedback especially to those of you experienced with DH. Based on other things I'd read I wanted to try them... hesitated after a couple replies to this thread, but gut still said 'ok' so glad the rest of you who have used them piped up to fortify that. I will give them a try.

Muchas Gracias

Yep, dreamhost are great in my opinion. I've used them for 4 months and only have positive things to say.

Do a google search for a $97 off coupon and get your first year (with a free domain!) for only $9. For that much, it's definately worth ago :)
