DOT tips opens on the 26th. But I see all the good names have already been registered (stock.tips, realestate.tips, stockmarket.tips, career.tips, medical.tips) and the ones that are not registered are reserved names >:(

Although, homebuying.tips is available. Is it worth registering it? What do you think of the .tips gTLD?

Of all the gTLDs, I don't see .tips as a great investment. The term seems a bit too casual for my taste, but this is not what you asked...

:)

If you want to buy in early, Dynadot offers non-premium EAP domains at $150. You can always wait until Wednesday (2/26) for general availability, but there is a risk that someone else will nab it or opt for the EAP registration.

At Go Daddy, you can pre-register EAP domains, and Go Daddy will try to nab it for you. But be aware that Go Daddy may not catch the domain and even if it does, there may be multiple pre-registrations. In that case, the domain will go to private auction.

UPDATE: I see that the domain you mentioned is $390 EAP; the annual renewal will be high on this one, probably around $150 (I'm just not sure).

My opinion: I would save my money and not reg or pre-reg this one.

Hi,

Since you are new, my advice is to do research, read as much as you can (in particular older threads about previously-released extensions), learn, take your time, and most important - don't fall for the hype :)
Personally I prefer to invest in the extensions that are already worth something today, rather than gamble. I don't see anything special with .tips, in particular when there are so many other extensions to choose from.

Many new extensions have a limited purpose, there are only so many keywords that make sense, and the best keywords will be either reserved or snagged by other people.

Yes, these TLDs are gold but it's fool's gold :talk:

These are free.tips for you :)

But I see all the good names have already been registered

Welcome to the domain racket of 2014

Heres some domain.tips

Isnt the whole internet info and tips? There not much advantage of owning even a good dot tips. Hard to sell dot infos why would dot tips be any better?

Each round of release there less domainer money out there to speculate on these.

To me there needs to be an interest beyond flipping.

.info is MUCH better than .tips.

At the very least, it's more professional looking.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'll just wait till tomorrow when the TLD goes to general availability.

Also, I see that investment.tips has 2 offers on Sedo. But I cannot see how much the offers are for. Currently, there are 29 .tips domain names currently on sale on Sedo (some of them are quite hilarious). Baseball.tips is on sale for $9,599.

.Tips is King

I predict .Tips will be one of the best ever because:

  • .Tips is very short
    .Tips is only one syllable
.Tips is very broad, allowing room for everything
.Tips renewal fees are low except premium ones are high

I paid a lot for Life.Tips and already have it developed and up.

life.tips is a great domain name. Many possibilities. How much did you pay for it?

I was going to register computer.tips but someone registered it in the early access period >:(

UPDATE: computer.tips is already on Sedo!

There is going to be a .computer, but that doesn't look like a good one.

Not much traction? Everything is registered on day one... heavy! traction immediately.

It's important to think about a few things:

(1) End users may use vanity extensions when they themselves hand-register them, but that doesn't mean they'd choose to buy them on the aftermarket.

(2) We will see (and already are seeing) some sales over $1k for domains in these extensions. But it can't be known yet what kind of volume such sales will have. And it may be temporary. Most of the really motivated buyers will buy this year, and 2015 will be different.

I'm buying some domains in the new extensions. But nobody knows yet if they'll be a good investment.

The BEST investment is always in the form of a developed site.

Domainers always lose money on average. If you pick good domains (in .COM or in anything else), you'll have a chance of beating that losing average and making a profit.

But the lowest-risk investments remain quality .COM domains with multiple likely buyers. The longer the record of past sales for a given extension is, the less risky it is overall. But that doesn't mean freegarbage-4u.com is a safe bet either.

I almost registered a .tips domain this afternoon as it was available and now it's gone. Thank You to that mystery domainer as I know this person saved me money!

According to RegistrarStats, .tips has 8019 registrations! It has more registrations than .technology, .bike, .clothing, .gallery, .directory, .land, .singles and .estate! I noticed that all good one word and two word combinations are gone. I also see some .tips domains on Flippa but did not see any sales yet. Lets see how things go for this TLD in the aftermarket. People were closely watching this TLD. I had pre-registered medicine.tips but before GoDaddy could send the registration, someone had already grabbed it in a matter of seconds.

Every conceivable variation of .club is already gone in landrush pre registration! What do you think of that?

Dictionary words all seem to be reserved in the new g's, so forgetaboutit.

Where do you see this? GoDaddy does not recognize .club yet.
