This is my one year experience.
now i don't trust any free hosting provider who give you huge kind service.
i tried from Ahplace.com, they were good, but not good in uptime.
& i try more than 50 free hosting provider, i only find two good service, from freehostia.com & unlimitedmb.com
& all other down now.
please don't trust any free hosting company who give only free host.
FreeHostia & UnlimitedMB is a free host, but they also give paid hosting option.
if you see, any free hosting provider have only this kind option, after that you can trust them.

you get what you pay... and if you pay 0, you shouldn't expect that much. Free hosting should be for personnal project and you should keep in mind that they can disappear tomorrow or in 5 years.

Free hosting is much more likely to not last long in my opinion since the host is not getting anything out of it, and since they have to still pay costs themselves, they end up not being able to afford to still keep it running.

It's a harsh world for people trying to show their goodwill, but unfortunately goodwill doesn't pay the server bills.

Free Hosting = No support/quality. Free hosting providers feel that since you aren't helping them out in anyway, financial wise, that you don't deserve any respect.

Paid Hosting = 100x better than free hosting. You have the support and the uptime guarantee, and a whole lot of other things protecting you.

What can I say other then you get what you pay for? I realize this isn't always the case with some paid hosts out there, but paid hosting means the host is accountable for their actions to at least some degree. I'm not knocking all of the free hosts out there, because they are good for small personal pages and the like, but if it's a serious website, pay the few dollars a month to save yourself the trouble.

You can trust most hosts, but you cannot RELY on them.
Frihost has a great service up(posting 4 hosting), but theres downtime every hour, which is a real downer if you want visitors.

if somewhere there is a paid host standard free host who displays no ads, nor requires posting, they WILL fail as they have no income to balance server costs.

The best option for testing is to set up a localhost.
I use wampserver.com
