DomainTops, previously the industry leader and pioneer in accurate, realistic automated domain appraisals, has been closed for major algorithm updates. So major, in fact, that the old one is being scrapped.

This is happening for two reasons:

1) A new, prominent service called EstiBot (which many of you know of) has opened with quite an impressive evaluation method. So, a friendly and healthy competition is one catalyst.

2) As I approach my senior year of high school, I've learned new mathematical concepts which are not only useful for the algorithm, but fresh in my mind (even though my education pales in comparison to most of you... heh).

3) General improvement. You guys are worth serving well, so I figure I better actually do that with the site.

The new algorithm will consider things that it never did before, and will consider some things that EstiBot doesn't. (EstiBot will likewise consider some things that DomainTops doesn't. Both Josh_1 and I agree that users should be able to compare, and there is room enough for the two of us.)

Anyway, as DomainTops appraised its TWELVE-THOUSANDTH domain, I took it offline. It'll be back up in about a month, maybe less.

Stay tuned...

-Matt

Good luck with the overhaul, Chulium! Looking forward to seeing your new features and discussing with you the challenge of automatic domain appraising.

I agree that there is definitely room for healthy competition, and would recommend that all domainers seek a second and preferably third opinion on all appraisals!

So, good luck but remember to enjoy your summer holidays too! I know I've spent too much time in the pale light of the monitor while working on Estibot.

Cheers!
Josh

Thanks for the wishes - finals are just these next two days so once they are over, I'll work on it when I'm inside. (save for sleeping, eating, and the other times I'll be enjoying the weather OUTside.)

Competition in any field keeps everyone on their toes to make changes for the betterment of all. Good luck to you Chulium and look forward to seeing all the changes you are making in order to be better and fully in the competition.

Competition is always healthy for everyone involved.

Thanks Joan!

Well, I've made some great strides in the features, but the numbers are still undergoing some tweaks. I wish I could say this new version will "be very exciting," but I think all I can muster is that this new version will "be intriguing and introspective into the characteristics of your domain." - I don't want to get all your hopes up, it IS just a website, and may not be as cool as I've made it seem; but I hope not to disappoint.
