Is it normally a good practice not to have domains that use a dash in them?

Thanks in advance for the insight!

If the dash is in the right place I don't see a problem.

Ok lets assume you wanted the domain carforums.com but it was already registered, however, car-forums.com was available. What do you think?

Domainers don't like them, longer, annoying to type, apparently it does not make a difference to search engines but most domainers try and avoid them.

Not sure about end users.

I have always stayed away from them, however, really having a hard time coming up with a domain as everything I try is taken.

Domains with a dash will be a lot cheaper to buy.

Thanks, that article was interesting...kinda makes me not want to use the hyphen only cause it can be easily left out and then a potential visitor goes to a competing site.

Personally I wouldn't do it...I'd rather go for the .net that the dashed .com

Re: Domains With A Dash

Unfortunately I would have to settle for the .info or .org

I think it's actually a hyphen, not a dash. :P

Re: Domains With A Dash

You are correct, it is a hyphen.

What if you were going to buy a domain name like T-shirt/com.

Should you buy the word with or without the hyphen?

Any thoughts?

If you are a domainer, stay million miles away from hyphenated domains. They don't carry any intrinsic value with the exception of a few highly searchable keywords.

If you are a developer then you may use one. Personally I wouldn't spend a lot of money on developing a hyphenated name.

just today on two hyphen domains I made a 250 dollar profit on one and 150 profit on another. I purchased both names less than 2 months ago.I also turned down 700 dollars in profit on a hyphen domain. So as for all this evil talk, that is kind of closed minded. As the old saying goes " If this is wrong, then I don't wanna be right".

I have been thinking about that alot as i just got in the t-shirt printing biz
Tho tshirt is not a word t-shirt is look it up
but i prefer a domain without - tho it looks better with, just not as brandable IMO tho if i could id get both
tho I know I cant afford tshirt.com or t-shirts.com etc
