This thread in many respects is a bit mean, as I am going to allow you to LOOK, but not TOUCH.

Many of you may remember Domain Dairy V1.0 (See http://www.namepros.com/for-sale-ad...-portfolio-manager.html?highlight=DOMAINDAIRY)

Unfortunately due to a mistake on my part, and an evil host I lost all my files. I pursued the matter for over a onth to no avail.
Rather than waste any more time, I started the long, and painful task of recoding DomainDairy!!

The new version is less feature rich at the moment, but it is coded significantly better, and runs more efficiently. What is is more is it is secure, and will be backed up regularly.

Check out DomainDairy.com for a bit of info, and a current general public position.

Then check out www.domaindairy.com/mydns.php to see my domain portfolio, and the interface in action. No login is required. You can see xactly how the site will work.. I have simply disabled the update button, and thus you can not query the whois servers.

So what does it do?
  • DomainDairy can monitor .com, .net, .org, .us, .info, and .biz domain names at ANY and ALL domain registrars.
  • You simply add you domains via a form, then select any combination, or all of your domains and click update.
  • The interface will grab your whois data, and update it in the database to minimize queries. The script calculates, age, and days until expiry and all is outputted to the user.
  • You can use a detailed 3 tier search to search for entries registered at a certain registrar, with certain nameservers, and a certain length of time until expiry. This is a NEW feature!!

What is to come?
  • I am working on coding a PI chart to display the make up of your portfolio by registrar, nameservers, age, and extension.
  • I am also going to develop a system to make your portfolio public/private.
If your portfolio is public, or the domains in your portfolio that you have set to public will be shown on a page you can link potential buyers to. There will be individual pages for each domain where visitors can make offers, and or appraise your domains.
  • You will also have a graphing suite so you can plot the demographics of your investments. For example you might plot the revenue your domain has earned from month to month, or the price at which you bought, and at which you have sold your domains. This option also calculates % profit as well as other things.

The best part is it is 100000% NOT Free.
Unfortunately the site is simply not freely available to use. As you can imagine this is a priceless script for any domainer.
All these threads about excel spreadsheets that do similar jobs...
Any one can see that excel is not an efficient way of monitoring an ever changing portfolio. With excel YOU have to update your domains. This script does it for you....

So we cant use it, what is the point of this thread then?
The point of this thread is to get YOU, the domainers opinions on the usage of this script. What would make this better, rather what would make this the BEST.

Any and all ideas, and constructive criticism are greatly appreciated.

As an Incentive I have 10 accounts available.

The 5 people who give the best suggestions will get an account, provided they are reasonably responsible, and honest members here.

Thanks very much for your time.

Some ideas that I can think of is maybe installing a widget to where you can track the traffic stats without having to go to another section. Another thing that I see that would be freaking awesome is to see what the different search engine results would be for various different searches. You might want to have a tool that tells you what similiar websites are out there and what keywords they use, if you plan on contacting end users.

Another idea would be to have an integrated email catcher that allows people who are on the site to put in their email address to show interest. One thing I have noticed is that people love thinking they are anonymous. It gives the domainers who like the end user deals. Just some ideas

Thanks for the ideas Jim.

Re the widget do you mean something like google analytics whereby you add a snippet to your site, and it monitors traffic?

Search Engine results can be done. Working on it!

Re similar websites, and keywords, nice idea but Im not sure how that could be done....

Re the email catcher, I am not sure what you mean, but I will have a section where you can make an offer, and input your email, and it will then be sent to the owner with whom you can then directly negotiate.

Thanks for the ideas.
More appreciated

:hi:

It would be useful to be able to easily delete multiple domains from the list either because they expired or were sold.

How much the domain cost and renewal cost and how much it sold for would be useful but should not be made public.

Another idea would be to have a widget that can give you the estimated overhead and cost versus what you did if you sold them. Like a forecast of future potential.

Analytics might be useful but then you might run into some issues with google, possibly. You can create a side program that does this. Anything is possible.

Re similar websites, and keywords, nice idea but Im not sure how that could be done....

Easy, you make a spider effect that basically goes on a search for specific keywords and function and they bring it back to you.

Something that I know interests people is if I put out a question like, "How would you like to have a site like this? A different way of grabbing a list and possibly promoting other like ideas.

I'll have more ideas in a bit.

You will have to work with the parking companies on this but it would be useful if the script could eventually pull parking stats (revenue, visits, clicks, click through rate, even keywords) automatically and keep a history of them.

When the graphing tools are implemented, users could see changes in performance over time to each factor (visits, clicks, click through rate, revenue) for each domain in relation to changes they make such as new parking providers, keywords, and settings. This would help us figure out the most effective way to monetize each individual domain. :)

It would be mighty convenient if you could modify nameservers for domains regged at the major registrars, from the DomainDairy interface. Again you would have to contact and work with the registrars that you want your software to support.

I think this is the next big step, that is if the system could integrate with outside systems (registrars & parking companies).

PS: The interface is in huge need of a "select all" button (when someone wants to update all his/her domain's information) and a way to do bulk changes (as mentioned by posters above).

Yes, each domain will have a personal, and a public page...

The widget you suggest is essentially what the graphing suite will do. You can plot whatever you want: Purchase price, CMV, Sale Price etc

Re analytics, I wouldnt call it that, but it would do a similar job. You put a code on your site and it monitors visitors, uniques, IPs, and country of origin.

Easy on paper, but I have no idea how to code something like this...
I will look into grabbing google, and msn results..

Not sure what you mean here.

Nice idea, however not logistically or financially viable...
I am a one man team doing this for a hobby, and I cant really see features like this happening...

There is one, in the header of the table just click the box, and it selects/deselects all..

Thanks for all the ideas guys, I would like more.
Tell all your domainer friends to visit this thread.....
Thanks

Not a problem. Hope you enjoy it. Any problems you encounter please let me know and ill fix them.

Just for knowledge atm it supports .com,.net,.org,.info,.us,.biz

If other extensions are wanted please post them here, and I will look into adding support. Thanks

Clowesy, my suggestions:

- Bigger letters (or at least the possibility to increase them, in case someone prefers small ones)
- red menu are almost not visible due to dark background. Would propose to change to a more contrast combination. The same is with black letters on dark background
- i would also list contact details, as they may be slightly different with different registrars.

If it is technically possible, add a button "transfer selected to godaddy" or "add automatically to sedo listing" (for example) and get an additional commission from them.

In general great idea, I would love to use it for my 300+ domains, especially if I get an account for free :)

.cc, .co.uk, .eu, .ru (nic.ru), .su (ni.ru) and .at (nic.at) would be nice.

very nice change of color to green when cclicking on the domains, but it is not changing to green when you click exactly on check box.

&uArr &dArr - what does it mean?

.in / .co.in / .net.in / .org.in / firm.in / .gen.in / ind.in would be great too...

Also, how about generic TLD categories?

And also a way for users to add their own.

Ok I am back, so updates. You can now change font size in your options.

I have had a note that the text is difficult to see, so I will be looking into this, and trying to sort it...

&uArr &dArr are the up & down arrows for sorting your domains. Apparently many browsers do not parse them. What browser are you using?

Affiliations with registrars: I may look into them once the basics are sorted, and perfect.

Other extensions: Investigating now..

You guys are too nice with him. You helped him improve his site and gave many suggestions. What is the point of excluding the whole Namepros community? And how likely is it he was suspended for no reason.

Hopefully he will change his approach.

Yeah, I'm a member at DNF too... but if this is the scene please delete my account.

I hope he doesn't sell info.... would be terrible. :td:

Funny bit is I don't even think his account is suspended... usually a message if it is... maybe he forgot his p/w :?

I get the impression that clowesy is somewhat of a shady character...I've noticed on several occasions that he has virtually no integrity whatsoever.

Clowesy's account is indeed closed. He has repeatedly been closed down, given chances to make things right, closed down again, and continues to break the rules after we specifically told him is was NOT okay to do what he is doing. Just can't follow the rules.
