As a domain investor, you likely work with various domain registrars to manage your portfolio. Many investors also keep a comprehensive, offline, "master" spreadsheet or database of all their domain assets, ensuring this overview is always up to date.

This poll aims to understand your starting point when deciding which domains to renew*, for the domains that don't have the auto-renew feature turned on. Do you primarily rely on your own domain administration records, or do you primarily rely on the renewal overviews provided by the registrars?

Again, this poll is about domains that are not set to auto-renew at your registrar.

Feel free to vote, and share your thoughts in the discussion.

*Edit: The only metric in this poll is the nearing expiration date, and not whether a domain is good, has visitors, and all kinds of other metrics. See posting below for a clarification.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Are there people that base their decisions on just what registrars show?

I assume we are talking about metrics that all -or most- registrars provide freely, eg. whois lookups as I can't imagine anything else that can be used to help.

If anyone votes for the registrars, could you please share how their metrics can help judge whether a domain is worth a renewal? Thanks.

Though interesting as well, this poll is not about that part, whether a domain is good or not and all kinds of these metrics.

It's simply about domains that are nearing expiration date. Are you renewing primarily based on your own records, or based on the emails/overviews from your registrar(s) that it's time to renew. The only metric in this poll is expiration date.

Hope this clarification works.

I use domain.io for managing the portfolio and regularly sort by expiration date to keep on top of what's coming up. Most of my .com I'll auto-renew but I'll usually check stats (TLDs/companys etc) for any that gives me that huh feeling when I see it :xf.laugh:

But the majority of my portfolio is at dynadot and their summary page with upcoming renewals and view by month is suuuuuper handy. It lets me know how aggressive I can be with new acquisitions vs renewals based on the next few months.

@Future Sensors ,
oh, I see now. It's not about the *decision* , it's about alertness to a domain's renewal. Thanks for clarifying.

I definitely use my excel. I don't trust registrars for anything. I even check auto-renewals as it has happened for registrars to not renew (renewal failing or just their auto-renew not working)
