23 of my domains expire 7/14/24. Every domain cost $10 to initially register. Every domain has more than doubled and in a few instances tripled the renewal price. I might renew 1 or 2.

I see this increase as price gouging.

Registry will be identified soon.

I have purchased domains at 8 registries including the price gouging one, so I have a good idea of the price spread for renewing non-premium domains.

Is this a way to trim the fat from my portfolio? Yes
Is this the manner I wanted to drop domains? No
Would I have spent $230 to renew 23 domains? Yes
Do I think the domains I'm considering to renew worth it? Not sure

I've spent a little over $1000 registering domains in 2023. I'll be making tough choices the rest of this year on what to keep and what to drop.

Feel free to leave a comment on business decisions you've made domaining.

Also, were the price increases the difference between a registration only deep discount and the standard renewal rate, or is it that the renewal rate increased significantly during the year that you held the names?

On the core issue of business decisions and renewing or not, I realize we don't have a precise estimate for the numbers, but for each renewal I consider the following:
When I first bought these domains I had the opportunity to renew at $10 per year. At the time Domain.com was putting (.space .cloud .online) in your cart for free, with the opportunity to renew. At first I deleted these out of my cart. Then I decided it wouldn't hurt to have free TLD extensions.

At that point in time GoDaddy and every other online appraisal evaluated my domains at $100 or less. Fastforward to today each domain has a low 4K online appraisal value.

I did post earlier this year about Domain.com updating their site. They also increased the renewal on all my domains. The real problem is before Domain.com renewed their site you could easily see your renewal price from the home page. Now you have to go through several menus to see your renewal cost. (out of site out of mind)

Porkbun, Dynadot, Namecheap, Sedo, Dan, Afternic, GoDaddy all have the same renewal costs when I first registered my domains.

Domain.com jacked up the renewal price on
.space
.info
.site
.blog
.cloud

The only reason I'm still at Domain.com is because they offer 2 ccTLD's Porkbun doesn't offer .za and .cz .

I'm willing to renew those two domains I believe $40-$50 for .za and $30-35 for .cz. I'm not logged in at the moment.

(I don't know if this is important or not. I didn't have any promo or discount codes when I purchased these domains.)

I read about other members having an increase of renewal prices because their domains were now considered premium.

Did I miss the memo on?

domainscom netfirms etc is all big shit. ui shit.. prices shit.. I dealt with em yrs back when they had them 1usd com transfer promos... the old ui was actually way better than this shit now.... either way they rank low among domainers and their is good reason why dynadot or sav are mentioned on np 10 times a day and domaincom is mentioned once a year. use dyna or sav. skip the rest.
I started an account at Dynadot this year. Their UI is transparent.

I still give Porkbun credit for having the most user friendly UI.

And I agree the original UI for Domain.com was better.

Everyone has to pay the ICANN for their domains, it's $0.18 per domain per year, it funds their work, and they're very important because they allow the whole internet to keep working, they're a multi-stakeholder non-profit.
It doesn't mean they're free of criticism, but gotta focus on what's legitimate criticism, and avoid complaining for the sake of complaining.

Registrars are free to list their prices including or excluding the ICANN fee, just like they can list their prices excluding taxes and/or payment processing fees, but in the end you'll always pay the ICANN fee, regardless of your registrar of choice, what changes is whether or not the fee is included in the listed price.
Because I use multiple registrars (Thanks Bob), it's hard not to price compare. Maybe I am being charged for ICANN and it isn't being itemized.

My issue is the price increase not the taxes.

Current update

I allowed 13 hyphenated domains expire on Domain.com. 23 domains in total.

I renewed 22 domains on Porkbun. I'm allowing 8 hyphenated domains to expire. 20 domains in total expired.

Still sitting on the fence on possibly renewing my .info and .site on domain.com.
