Hi, I am not sure which forum this is best suited to so apologies if it needs to be moved.

I want to ask for some basic advice on parking domains.

When is it worthwile to park a domain? Or should all domains be parked with a company like Sedo from the day you reg it?

How can you calculate a rough income from a particular domain?

How do you actually optimize the parked domains, I know you can chose your own keywords etc. and I have read the sticky about this. But how do you actually chose the keywords? and can you enter more than one on Sedo?

Thank you in advance, and apologies if this stuff has already been covered elsewhere. Please point me to it if it is :)

The better way to monetize the domains, IMO:

First you must park the domain to know how many visitors they have (eg: @SEDO)

Then create minisites to monetize the best domains.

I think SEDO has two options for parking. The basic one that is available to everyone doesn't seem to earn much, even if your domains have traffic. Try the other option or use another parking service. For any domain that gets traffic but does not earn money you need to add or change the optimization and if that does not work, you need to try a different parking company. Keep trying different parking companies until your domain makes some money. But if you have no traffic, you are not going to make any money, no matter what.

Your domain will get traffic from two methods:

1) The domain is something that people will type in to see what is there, like "hotbabes, com" for example. The chances of you finding a domain like this are small, but you may get lucky. Then you need to make sure that the ads on the domain relate to the words in your domain. Don't have ads for cars on your "hot babes" domain. :)

2) If the domain you get has links pointing to it you may get traffic from those links. Even if you don't get traffic from the links, they may help with the search engines to send traffic to your domain.

Most parking providers don't allow you to do anything to get more traffic to your domain. But some do, so check the rules of each one and ask them if you are not sure.

Building mini-sites is a good option, but services like WhyPark.com and Noomle.com may also be good and provide the same results. These services use your account with AdSense to earn money. But becareful with AdSense: I used them for about 8 years and always followed their rules, yet this month they closed my account and would not give any reason for doing so. If you only count on money from AdSense you may be in trouble if someday the same thing happens to you.

Thanks to both for responding :) + rep. Very helpful responses as always here.

I will have a read online about the different parking sites.

It's not worth parking hand-registered domains. They are unlikely to have any traffic. What you need is already registered domains with traffic. Try SnapNames/NameJet/GoDaddy, for sources for expiring domains.
