I usually don't deal with domain brokers, not only are they way overpriced but their a headache that I prefer to do without.

So last week I receive a $1200 offer for a firearm domain, Through normal negotiations between buyer and myself and considering the domain, I feel I can probably get over 5K for it.

But the offer was initiated through Godaddy and it's going through SedoMLS, not sure how SedoMLS picked it up since I never listed it with Sedo MLS... At any rate, Sedo is acting as broker and they do NOT allow any communication with the buyer whatsoever, I cant even cancel the transaction without making a counter offer first.. Your asking; "Why don't I counter offer?" Several reasons, they want me to enter into a 7 day contract and I would have to pay them 20%, of the sale price, which is outrageous considering the service they provide, which for the most part is automated.

If I were to run this through Escrow.com like I always do, the escrow fee would be less than 4% and split between buyer/seller.. If I were to mark the price up over and above my $5K goal to cover the escrow fee, I run the risk of losing the sale.

Pretend for a moment your not desperate, not in dire straits, but you want to make the sale, would you make a counter offer OR wait until the buyer goes to your parked page and uses the contact form (or Whois) to contact you directly?

OH, I almost forgot; amazingly the domain is listed in Godaddy's auction, by NO authorization by me, and I never once listed it at Godaddy, So how can they attempt to sell a domain that isn't theirs for whatever price it sells for?.. Makes no sense.

ALL Sedo listings are also listed with Godaddy, even though you are not signed up with their MLS they are connected now with Godaddy.

And if you had that domain listed with Godaddy then you would have only paid a commission of 10% through Godaddy.

The 20% is outrageous and I usually don't respond back to the MLS offers in hopes they will contact me directly but you run the risk of never hearing from them again.

Good luck.

I thought that Sedo listed domains with fixed prices automatically on MLS - do they now also do that with Make Offer listed domains?

All make offers and fixed prices are listed with Godaddy.

What you can do is list them yourself at Godaddy that way if an offer comes through Godaddy it will only be 10%.

Ok thanks this stuff seems to keep changing.

To list a domain at GD does it have to be registered there?

When I add a GD domain at Sedo I get this message

could not be activated for SedoMLS Premium because they’re not at participating registrars.

And yes at Sedo if they charge you 5% extra claiming an offer came via MLS you have no way of knowing if that is true.

Re OP's question: just not responding makes sense, let them offer more.

Yes it does need to be registered at Godaddy as far as I know.

And yes there needs to be more transparency.

I have been in contact with a Sedo rep and didn't want to reply to this thread until I understood what was going on.

I agreed to make a counter offer for $6200, $1200 of which would cover the escrow fee, I knew by including this fee that I ran the risk of losing the sale, needless to say I lost the sale yesterday, No response to my counter offer.

From what I learned from Sedo, if you have any domains listed for sale on their web site, which mine were listed when I parked them, they will automatically list those domains in the MLS, without any authorization from the owner whatsoever. This I did not know.

The argument the Sedo Rep made is that my domain would of NOT been found for sale when the buyer searched for it at Godaddy, NOT true.. I know from past experience that if a domain is taken, Godaddy gives you the option to try an acquire that name through their broker service, IF this had happened and I had some communication with the buyer, I am confident I could of landed this sale. No communication through Sedo? it was almost dead from the get go.

Never sold a domain through Sedo and I honestly don't plan too, I'm removing all my domains from their site and closing down my account.. Even though I don't like using brokers they have some value, I will list them at Goddaddy as some of you suggest, Aside from the 10% escrow fee, I like the fact that buyer pays the escrow fee as well as the exposure my names will receive.

Also, I tried contacting the owner of the .net which is listed at Godaddy, but the email came back as undeliverable... Currently the page is parked with Godaddy hosting.

Thank you for the update and the explanation they gave you, I don't understand
how - without permission - they can change err lock you into something like that.

Was curious how this was going to turn out, sorry it wasn't favorable :(

Looks like I will be re-reading the service agreements - again!

It took a couple emails for her to come out and acknowledge it, Reps are never straight forward when it comes to something as unfavorable as this, I think we as domain owners should of been given the OPTION to liat them.

Sedo MLS came out long after my names were listed, so if its in the TOS, I don't recall ever agreeing to the addendum.

And I sold a domain through Godaddy for $8K about 5 months ago, its a name I had for a long time and the only reason it was NOT listed with Sedo is because I developed it into a mini site. Good thing I did!
