I received an offer through Sedo, I agreed to the price and so did buyer. I presumed that when Sedo received payment from the buyer they would let me know and at that time I would transfer the domain to the buyer. Sedo has not confirmed payment but they want me to unlock my domain. What does Sedo do when I unlock my domain? How can they transfer it without my O.K.?
Does Sedo transfer the domain to a Sedo account? I'm confused. I have only sold one other domain through Escrow.com and they never asked me to unlock my domain. They let me know when the buyer had paid and I then transfered the domain to the buyer. If you have sold through Sedo, please advise.

Just wait till they'll let you know when the buyer sent payments.
Sedo cant transfer the the domain without your authrization.
They usualy asked to unlock the domain and be ready to transfer when the buyer paid.
Anyway good luck with the sale and happy holidays.

Sedo can transfer the domain to their account under buyer's desired registrar and push it to the buyer, if your registrar is not the same with the buyer's.
But all these happen only after they receive the payment from the buyer.

Yep, don't worry about the request just follow their instructions. I have dealt with them for several years now and do trust them ... Never had a problem.

All the best.

Thanks for the advice. I will follow the instructions they send. This sale is a little harder than using Escrow.com, just because they don't explain anything for a first time user. I'm sure once I've gone through the process it will be simple the next time. I tried e mailing sedo with my questions but never received any answers. Could be because of the holiday season I suppose.
Anyway I will update this post for other new users of Sedo escrow. Thanks again for your help. I wish you all a happy and prosperous New year!!

Hi Patches,

That is one thing about them, they can be a bit slow ... However they are pretty good once you get to know them :)

Forgot to mention ..... Congratulations on the sale :)

All the best.

Sedo does have accounts at most major registrars. Lately, the practice has been to push the domain to the sedo account where they enter the buyers whois info before releasing it to the buyer or allowing them to request a registrar transfer. My sedo sales have all been enom, registerfly, and dotster lately, which all have pushes. I'm not sure how they would do others or registrars like godaddy/wwd that put a 60 day hold on account changes.

Watch for false instructions though. I always verify the status by logging into sedo before doing any transfer to see transaction status. Scammers or impatient buyers may try to circumvent the process by fooling you into transferring befor the payment is quaranteed.

Yep, sorry ..... Take notice of what Adoptable says ... In my haste to reply I forgot that I have been in the trade for a while and take certain things for granted. Whenever dealing with a third party ( like Sedo ) log into your account at their site and follow the instructions from there.

Treat e-mails as just a notification that something has happened, usually you can tell from the e-mail if you know how to look at links properly ... But still better to just log into your account, using a bookmark you have made previously rather than trusting links in e-mail.

All the best.

From my experience, waste of time to push to sedo first.

They will not release the money until the buyer confirms he has it - regardless of whether sedo itself has control of the domain.
In short sedo (and others) are not strictly perfoming "escrow".

The person in charge of "escrow", Nicole Madeja is particularly clueless.
moreover she would not even spend the 2 minutes to create a new free a/c at a certain registrar to facilitate the transfer. No big deal but it would've helped sedo for any future t/fs at this registrar.
