Domains sold via Sedo MLS network, are charged a 20% commission-whether fixed price or offer.

Godaddy Premium listings charge 30% on sale of domains listed with a fixed price.

Correct me if I am wrong (I haven't sold a name via sedo mls), wouldn't it then be better to list domains which you have set a fixed price with sedo and not Godaddy, since Godady is part of their MLS network and your listing should appear on GD anyway? So if the buyer had to come through Godaddy, you only pay 20% and not 30% for the Premium listings?

Or am I wrong to assume that Premium listing with Godaddy and those listed with Sedo Mls at fixed price appear the same on the Godaddy site when a customer does a search?

I don't list on GD, only sedo

but the last 5 or 6 offers have originated from GD, via Sedo MLS

if that helps

imo....

Thanks biggie. I was just wondering if there could really be such a discrepancy in commission charged especially since Sedo MLS is a third party (to the GD site) that charges only 20% while Godaddy charges 30% for a domain listed at fixed price.

The Sedo MLS listing (at fixed price) may have the very same effect on Godaddy as Premium listings but at a lower commission.

sedo MLS is like switching on godaddy auction buy-it-now but charges more than godaddy 20 vs 10 percent
so as all mls sales came from godaddy, i deleted them from MLS and just entered into godaddy auctions
why overpay 10 percent for nothing?

godaddy premium is different from godaddy auction BIN in the process of the sale.

@biggie - I don't use Sedo MLS or GoDaddy Premium. Just the plain auctions. Earlier this year, I too was listing only on Sedo. All these domains suddenly appeared on GoDaddy, and I started getting offers. So I thought why should I pay Sedo 20% commission when it only costs me 10% commission on GoDaddy. So I listed them on GoDaddy as well. Suddenly the Sedo offers dried up and I was getting the offers direct from GoDaddy. GoDaddy has completely swamped sales from Sedo/Afternic/MyOwnWebsites, since I started with this auction selling earlier this year . It's not even close. In my experience. The next best auction house has been Afternic. They appear to try very hard, imho. Sedo has only resulted in 1 sale for me this year. they've been extremely disappointing. So you are paying 10% extra commission by only listing on Sedo.

Agree with stub. Personally GD is where most of my activity is now.

They're the world's largest registrar, and many end users are going to be registering their names there.

If you have a premium listing, it'll be shown to them when they search for the availability of domain that you have.

Otherwise, even with a regular auction - you benefit from the lower commission + you can just forward your domain to the actual listing itself, in the event an end-user types the domain.

my short answer to that is:

you, the seller don't pay anything

the buyer pays the "agreed to" price or BIN

so..... if your price is 10% higher at sedo, than at gd, you net the same.

now, on the other hand

who takes the longest to send you your money, after buyer has paid?

still, I never worry about commission fee, because I ALWAYS add it into the price.

so...

even if it was the largest registrar, that doesn't necessarily make it the registrar, that holds the best domain names.

especially since (GD) seems to be the entry point for newbies.

as 1 out of 10 new, newbie registrations, will continue to dilute the quality of their overall holdings.

furthermore, those same newbies, who know nothing of domain values, will make up the majority of people submitting offers on your domain names.

sure, you may count less commission in your mind as a benefit, but on the other side of that coin... will be all the lowball offers

imo...

The 30% for Premium Listings, NS is for names showing in the registry path. When someone searches for a domain on Go Daddy these will appear and the buyer can just checkout and buy the domain.

@biggie - So do you have different prices for the same domain depending on which sales platform you are using? Or do you only list on Sedo? From my experience you are definitely losing sales if you don't list on GoDaddy.

Use Sedo MLS, what's the problem? Include +10% to a price and Ok :)
Also use Godaddy premium, include +20% to your price

Get the most exposure you can. I use Afternic,Bodis,Cax,Sedo,GD.

My favorite site is CAX.com. Its easy low fees and its a part of Domaining.com :)

I have never heard about cax.com. Are you serious or you are just related with them?

edit: that website seems to be owned by domaining.com, but it's looking like it was designed in nineties, that made me suspicious.

If I remember right, only Godaddy Premium listings appear on Godaddys front page search as something you can immediately add to your shopping basket. Sedo MLS listed domains are shown on Godaddy as "... is at auction through GoDaddy Auctions --> get it" (and the Auctions require membership).
