Hi,

I booked a domain name in .UG (uganda) registry and the domain name was reserved and then confirmed to me thro email. Domain was also delivered to my account. I put the domain name on sale and received some offers. Offers were good.

On the other side from day one there was problem in the domain name connecting to my name servers. I keep on following with the registry and they were also checking.

Finally yday, they inform me that the domain name has a word that is forbidden by the registry and cannot be used by me.

Domain booked on : 24th Feb 2018
Cannot be used information passed to me by the registry on : 9th Mar 2018

Still the domain name is in my account but the dns does not work.

Who is at fault here? I have spent quiet some money marketing this domain and I stand to loose on this. The buyer has already cancelled the negotiations.

Now who should I make the complaint to - UG registry - who is very slow in replying mails (or) ICANN ???

Can some experienced pros thread some light on this issue how to proceed further?

Hi,

That is beauty of CCTLDs. They can change or say anything they want. They can even take away your name from you. It happened with me in past. I registered couple names with .LY and they cancelled names after couple of days saying it is against their country's policy. I never touched any registry who are connected to african country where rules are very strange.

Stick to .com or any other popular GTLDs such as .net, .org, .io (Google consider it as GTLDs) etc.,

Thanks

Thank you very much for your reply.

Can i make a complaint to ICANN over this issue?

Nope... ICANN does not interfere in the operation and policies of ccTLD registries. This is a very sucky situation and you should contact the registry to try and understand their concern and see if you can mitigate the same. If not, ask them for a refund. Since the domain was registered only a few days ago, an ultimate eventuality would be to file a chargeback to recover the cost of the domain (assuming you paid using a CC)

How did you market a domain you couldn’t even access DNS to? I doubt you would spend time marketing it, when you can’t even figure out why it’s not working.

This is the risk you run with the alt extensions.

The word would be forbidden as it would either be explicit, of some sort of mark.

the main reason i paid and signed up here is to ask question about it here. this is also a sort of spend sir.

thank you sir for your reply. there are ready to give a refund.
Lol... You're thanking yourself for a comment you posted...
But glad that you're getting the refund. At least some recompense though whatever you spent for your marketing is lost...

I have a guess: it's because of the names that you registered.

My God, we are talking about Uganda here. Do some research, did you really think they would tolerate registrations like these ? No way, and there are other ccTLDs that are equally strict when it comes of certain types of domains.
