Hackers calling themselves “Electr0n” have defaced the nic.ly home page. nic.ly is registry which administers .ly domain names and is Libya’s TLD country domain extension. The “hackers” put up this on the home page of the nic.ly website:
Code:
http://dannosblog.com/2011-08/libya%E2%80%99s-top-level-domain-name-registry-hacked/

As of now, it's still hacked.

I see that no_url_shorteners is forwarded to no_url_shorteners right now and I just went to my Twitter and see that all of my shortened urls that I used no_url_shorteners for ARE still resolving so I really dont see a huge problem right now...

If the actual registry was hacked, could they dump all the registered domains?
and if they did - what would happen?

[silly question probably but I've always wanted to know] :red:

I'm sure the cloud has adequate backups. I doubt many domains would change ownership :)

I'd personally like to hack the .com DNS system but I wouldn't ever announce that publicly .. and I certainly wouldn't try it for real. Just a nice mental exercise.

They found a huge gaping whole in the code about 2 years ago so anything is possible :)
