Domain aging question

If I hold a domain without putting anything on it, other than parking, for say 1 year or more, then decide to develop it, does the "age" of the domain start when I start to add pages or when I registered it initially?

Also will parking damage any aging benefits, parking is a redirect right?? Do redirects damage credibility???

I have some domains I plan on developing (you know how that goes right!!) but might not get to it, but would still like to have the "aging" benefits if I do decide to develop later on.

The aging begins from date of registration. Parking or development both have no effect on any dubious benefits aging might or might not bring. What would destroy any aging benefits would be if the domain got faillisted by Google.

There's absolutely zero benefit from an SEO perspective if a domain is aged or not. This is a myth. Website's rank well because they have great content, quality back links and social shares. Not because the domain is 10 years old.

Yes, if you use a domain that was previously developed that still has quality back links it will help with getting this newly launched site on that domain rank better, faster (if the topic/subject of the new site is similar to the previous site that was on the domain) but this hasn't anything to do with the domain being aged.

Edit: if you're interested you can watch this vid with Google's Matt Cutts answering the question if domain age matters or not.

I agree with Dv82 about domain age.

It is also true that content, backlinks, seo together with more than 200 other factors contribute to Google rank. Keep in mind that, at the end, it all comes down to make websites that are user friendly meaning that they " give something " to the visitor in terms of knowledge, information etc.

The first and most important thing to keep in mind, if you want to rank, is to make a website for the user not for Google and this is where all the changes in the algorithms are leading to.
