I am at about 375 mobis now with a list of 40-50 more I would like to reg. My wife says enough is enough. I guess I have made my last purchase for now. What is your partners take on this whole mobi thing?

At the moment I don't have a "significant other" (for better or for worse), however the attitude that my family holds is that as long as I make money, they're not complaining. ;)

They don't think that domaining will ever amount to much of anything, but I just take that as a challenge to keep trying. B-)

And yes, they thought I was out of my mind when I bought my first LLL.com for mid $xxxx last week...

labrocca, why not go the whole scientific route, and ask ramdomly if they know what .info, .biz, .eu and a few others are, and what for, too! Be interesting to see the responses for such, and to which questions too!

(..probably get the same results almost for any ext. except the top 3, .com .net .org, I'd think.)

Well basically I ask because the future of mobi interests me. Does that bother you that I take an interest in something? I don't really care what people think of biz, info, or eu since I don't place much value in the names and that's established. mobi is not established...and there is a chance (albeit slim) that I am completely wrong about mobi. WHY WHY WHY...lol.

Why do mobi buyers feel the need to post every POS they register and ask for an appraisal? WHY WHY WHY...

To answer your question...I climbed the mountain because it was there. Think about that. Mobi is here and now.

Instead of asking if they know about .mobi, I simply educate them on it. I had a few people laugh, a few people politely entertain my enthusiasm, a few people go oh, really (tarantino 4 rooms style :)), and a few go out and register some.

I choose to educate others about mobi rather than have them give me a one word answer to a one point question.

As an experiment, labrocca, try asking open ended questions and see what you get.

I'm actually amazed how many people haven't even heard about what quality dotcoms are worth... I was telling some coworkers about it at work and they were rather baffled when I told them that a half decent city name fetches $100k+.

At first, my wife didn't know about mobi or my venture into it. That changed when my first one went live. She is now very optimistic about the future of what "might be". She's now helping share ideas for development and is trying to think of new reg names with me. My list is dwindling down as well, but that doesn't keep me from looking. It seems I still occasionally find a "keeper" that was just waiting to be picked up. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: "Beauty is in the eye of the owner". I try to base my names on logic and specific development ideas that would be of interest to "the masses". Not all will be winners, but hopefully, enough of them will be to make this worth my while! I agree that most of the new reg's I see are really stretching it. They will need to be developed to recoup reg fee's IMHO. It's very clear we do not all think alike. But it's nice to have support at home (and the additional input of "should I pass or pick it up?")

:hi:

I just got off the phone with a good friend of mine ... Stanford graduate, 1500+ SAT's, works in Boston in some high mucky-muck :$: engineering firm ... and I asked him if he had ever heard of the Mobile Web, and then the .MOBI extension specifically.

He replied, "Yes, of course ... and it (the Mobile Web) is genuine and has tremendous potential" and ".MOBI, what is that?" Here I basically explained it and also gave him the link to mTLD (below) and he listened and scanned the site for several minutes ... and then asked, "Is this real or fake?" (I don't think he cared much for the website, itself), and then added, "I don't really see the need (for this .MOBI) ... everyone has plans and investments already in place for portablility, and as I said the Mobile Web is genuine and certainly no secret to anyone! It looks to me like the .MOBI people feel that they are the only ones to have thought of the delivery of the internet to mobile devices. That of course is untrue!" :gl: :guilty:

Here is the link I gave him: http://pc.mtld.mobi/

Just his two huble sense.

That's because there is no need for .mobi. It's just a useful way of denoting a mobile-compatible site, just as .org is a useful way of denoting a non-profit organization. :imho:

Just my two cents. :]

All the best,

Righto, I briefly mentioned to him about the "branding" aspect of the .MOBI (as, technically, and you're both right ... there is no need for the extension) - and he never really replied, I took it as he just kind of shrugged his shoulders and found it to be, for lack of a better term, nonessential IMHO. I do think he grasped this branding / marketing aspect ... but wasn't overly impressed. I will say, though, he did not like that mTLD website! :yell:

Anyway, it's all straight from a VERY, I mean highly intelligent, smart dude's mouth IMHO. Adds some non-domainer persepctive, I guess.

Certainly, and I think you for sharing! Always good to get outside perspectives on things...especially in cases such as this, in which the public will need to be in the know about .mobi if it is to succeed. :talk:

Am I the only one noticing a dramatic rise in active .mobi forum members lately?

My significant other knows that my interest in domains would not be offering her the support it does and .mobi is no exception.

too many good mobis were regged by American and Chinese.
i can't image how huge market when the .mobi to be use in mobile phone.
i still believe .mobi will be the 2nd worth in domain names in the future.
however, any investment like venture capital.

If I had a wife, she wouldn't care. That's because I've registered a whole 1 .mobi. :)

After reading two pages of threads i've come to the conclusion.. I'm not getting married! :p :p :p
On another note, I did not come across any females in this thread!? (my apologies if there were..) If there are, I/we would love to know what your partner thoughts are of your .mobi regs!

I have 160 mobis

I have 160 mobis.

I am female. my husband- well he just does not worry about how much I spend on domain names.

My husband does not know how to turn on a computer. He really wishes computers would just go away.

160 mobis- well I only intended to register about 10 mobis and then I caught the mobi addiction that seemed to spread amongst nameproer's.

Cheers

Hubby has a cell phone

Hubby has a cell phone and uses that all the time, but i just cant see him looking at websites on the cell phone unless it was info that he wanted on the move like, maps, traffic conditions, weather, vehicle adverts, properties for sale, cattle sale reports- he would learn to surf the web on his phone.
