Hi guys. It was suggested to me several weeks ago that I might consider looking into the sales side of domaining. Thinking about this prospect fills me with fright, however.

How do I get started with outbound sales? I have a few domain names that I think could each be a good fit for at least one company I found googling. Do I just call them? Who do I ask for — marketing? From there, I suppose I start telling them of the benefits of having my domain, such as being short or easy to remember, etc? And I guess that at no point should I tell them I’m new to this and really nervous, lol.

Any guidance would be appreciated — on either the emotional front, or the logistical one.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Molly, for what it's worth from someone with over 30 years customer service experience in the modern era, making phone calls may not be your best option if you are not used to it or you are nervous.

Anyway, in my limited experience they ask you to either put it in writing using the generic email address or use the 'contact us' button on their website.

However, outbounding domain names is not as easy as one would presume and there are certain ways to achieve better results if using the email option so I might suggest reading up on this method too before picking up the phone. You may find that this is a better use of your skills.

Good luck with you endeavours.

of course.

i didn't get a chance yet to read your whole thread over there but the original post is a far cry from:
Hello,
My company owns the domain name abc.com and I thought you may be interested in acquiring this name for yourself. Can we be in touch to discuss this further?
Thank you,
@Molly

how successful such an endeavor is is a whole nother story..

Sorry, but I don’t know why you tagged me. I have no idea what you’re talking about; I never sent that message.

To clarify; you originally asked about outbound, so i posted sulley's email templates thinking that you may find it helpful, which biggie responded to the contrary with a link to his post regarding outbound scammers (see the lengthy and cumbersome email he received as outbound), to which i replied that a brief email notifying a potential customer of a domain is a far cry from the example in his post. my intention was not to quote you as the sender of the email, rather to keep you in the loop that there are some more benign ways of going about outbound. i hope that clarifies everything and i do apologize for how it left room for a different interpretation. keep your posts coming, they are always welcome and appreciated!

No worries. It sounds like you’re just trying to help, and message boards can be weird places.

Hi, @Molly ,

Thank you for asking the right questions that usually bring about a fruitful discussion full of good advice.

I keep learning from your threads.

As for outbounding, I always freeze at the very thought of addressing people to pitch a name. However, from what I have seen here on NP, you have a priceless advantage that I lack: you master the language. You are not only proficient with grammar and vocabulary, but also know register and can communicate smoothly and effectively with anyone, anytime.

I am sure you will be successful if you set to outbound the clever way.

"IMO" ;)

Don’t sell yourself short, @MariaEl. I think your English is quite good for a second language. But more importantly — your kindness always shines through, and I want to believe that’s the sort of thing that matters most. Wishing us both (all) the best! 😊
