Can you use the word "porn" in the domain name of a non-adult website and not get red flagged by search engines and email servers? Example watchporn.com (if it was about watches) or pizzaporn.com (if it was about pizza recipes). Would it get automatically banned by universities, workplaces, libraries and such? Cheers.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I'm thinking to create a pizza porn recipe website. Users find an insanely sexy looking pizza on the site and there's a video with instructions. Ads can be anything pizza related. Domain name needs "pizza" and "porn" in it. But not sure whether "porn" is red flagged. If it is I could use "pawn" or "poorn" or "pourn" something like that to avoid the adult filters. There's not much in the way of answers on google that's why I posted the thread. If in doubt ask the experts. You are the experts.

Be sure to secure the domain name first.

I have a book called "Cabin Porn". It just has pictures of unique cabins and locations.

"Porn" is not something I would ever consider using in a brand personally. It might be edgy, but it is not professional and will turn a lot of people off.

The phrase climbing porn has been in use for some time and is often used to reference Alpinist magazine, but I have seen it used in conjuction with both food and trucks.

Some will have a difficult time getting past the one word, but it can probably be defined as "an image which generates a reaction of excitement in an individual not unlike a pornographic image".

I have a couple of pornXXX in a cctld, but dont see a high commercial value, perhaps as a blog or as mentioned an edgy business.

I would say Google Pizza Porn....but.........

I bit.

Google Example #1: "hide explicit results"

Google Example #2: "show explicit results"

= a lot of explicitly sausage pizzas

+ a few women out there trying to #MakePizzaGreatAgain

Below is an archived cached version of PizzaPorn.org <shopify store> of pizza (non adult related) items previously offered for sale.

Depends on the network administrator. There are clever filters possible but if you want a 'suitable for work' filter it's better to be safe than sorry.

It's hard to keep up with all fetishes people seem to develop these days :)

@bmugford True

People can see the word porn in two ways ...relating to sexual content or other sexual content (a quirk, just sexy), in a sense of aesthetically pleasing stuff, like Cabin Porn (interior / exterior cabin designs, idyllic scenery, other)
Unless you have been living in a monastery in Tibet for 50 odd years then Porn only means one thing....people can try and wrap it up how they want but go and ask 1,000 people (or more) what Porn means to them and I'm sure 99% will give you interesting sex related answers - the other 1% will tell you of their disappointment about the Cabin Porn book not living up to expectations......

I wonder how many people bought @bmugford book on impulse thinking it was about something else before it started gathering dust on the shelf.......

Porn is porn no matter how you try and wrap it up......no normal business is going to let "porn" slip through.....

The use of the word in any combination just means someone has a desire for that type....

Nice try though 😉

That is true, I don't dispute that. Nothing but a quirk the other meaning

PS I'm going on Sedo later, looking up some Domain Porn
I might just have a dirty mind though 😉

I posted a thread on what is adult and it is totally acceptable to start threads on psychedelic drugs gambling etc but no porn such a double standard.

When i started investing in domain names, i handregged a bunch of adult VR domains, they are all dropped now though.

Unless it's something like sex dot com or porn dot com, I made a decision a couple years not to go near adult domain names for various reasons but the main reasons being 1) as OP says, they get red flagged 2) they are difficult to sell 3) a couple years ago there was talk of countries making online porn more difficult to access and people needing ID's to view it.

I'd be of the opinion that saying watch porn and seeing it written down have two different interactions with the brain. One is acceptable and the other is not. I am sure that there are other domain names which contain the word but have nothing to do with adult entertainment.

Me, I would steer clear. I think that certain words or phrases could not be listed on Afternic. Not sure about GD.

Yes, almost always.

It's automated. There are some blacklisted words. Many websites and online services heavily rely on their own blacklist words. Porn is probably at the top of all blacklists. Anything that includes "porn" would get blocked as it's a blacklisted word.

Removing an automated ban would require manual human review by the person who is authorized to lift it. You would need to contact many places to ask for getting unbanned and sometimes it can not be possible for technical factors. The worse thing is that you would eventually forget or not get noticed or are not aware of too many places that have blocked your domain from accessing their services. Also don't assume unbanned status of your porn domain will not change. It would easily turn back to banned status after an update in software, authorized staff, company ownership, etc.

Really helpful mate. That sounds like a full time job just to keep it unbanned. Think we'll pass on porn. Might look for a hack of the word instead. Example foodpawn.com or foodpvrn.com but probably not a .com. Cheers.

I am glad to be helpful.
