I dont have a clue what it is, i think it is an electric motor, but i am probably wrong.

Anyone have any ideas what it is? I just found it on the bottom shelf in the shed. It is at least 12 months old and hasnt been used for 12 months. (kept in the dry tho).

It broke my camping table :(. It was too heavy for it.

Anyway, here are 3 pics i took quickly of it. Anyone have any ideas?

It does look like an electric motor. How large is it?

If its old and hasn't been used for a while, its probably good as junk.

We did have loads of old gardening tools (1930's to 1950's), and we still have some from the 1960's. But we also did have a lot of reno vans.

It is around 30cm long and weigh's at least 10kg.

I was shocked when trying to pick it up. It was so small and heavy.

Anyone else have any clues?

It's an electric starter motor from an automobile or tractor. These are more commonly known as a "starter" or "car-starter". It's connected to your battery and ignition switch and when you turn your key, it starts the motor turning until it cranks up.

On second thought, I believe this looks like a prototype mobile phone from the 60's. :talk: Obviously, the technology wasn't quite ready for the bigtime.

Thanks. Would it be any good for a large model boat (2metres long)?

Edit: Possibably a Diesal Renualt Master starter motor? We dont have any tractors.

Looks like it's for a boat or water pump (looks familiar when I put toghether our small pond at our house).

Not sure, you should see if one of those "fix it all" stores would take it off your hands if you have no use for it.

It is only good for the model of motor it was made for. There are a thousand variations of starter motors. You most likely can collect a core-charge for it at any autoparts store. You could probably get between $15-30 for this kind of thing.

For some reasons I didn't see Rob making the suggestion about the WWII bomb until now, pardon my stupidity. *bleep* happens when you try to be creative @ 4 AM in the morning :)
