Do you use estibot to help decide on registrations

For fresh registrations, do you use estibot to help determine if you are going to register or not?

If you do, what is the minimum value you would be looking for EB to give a domain name before your reg it (understanding of course that there will always be exceptions).

Here is the reason I ask, I am coming up in a few months on renewal time for some of my domains. Most of these were domains that I picked up when I was very new at this (I still consider myself pretty much a rookie since I haven't really devoted a lot of time to learning the finer points). So I think I can probably do better just dropping some of these names and hand regging new ones.

I can find a fair amount of domains that estibot says are in the $500 range whereas some of the domains I currently have are reg fee or worse.

I have many that are in the $1000-12000 range that nobody is bidding on at extremely low prices. But I do use it to help decide if something is worth buying. If something has a high value, both on estibot and also leapfish...then I usually will buy it if Im already considering it. But you will notice that leapfish bulk appraiser appraises completely different then the single appraiser. I will load many into the bulk appraiser, and the ones that are not zero, I have ran through the single appraiser and the appraisal is completely different. So I would wait until the kinks are worked out in the bulk appraiser. But Estibot is definately better than leapfish. I think its as good as an automated appraiser can be.

I wouldn't use ANY automated appraisal to determine what to register or what to let drop. If you have a question about keeping or letting a name drop post them here. You will get much better results.

If you have a little time before making a decision put them up for auction here if you get any bid it's better than just letting them drop. Best of luck.

No, my main tool to decide on a domain registration is my gut feeling about the domain.

I like a 3 stage filter.

1. Get 1000-3000 names to choose from.
2. Filter it down to 30-150 names
3. Pick the best 1-5 names.

Anything showing a few hundred on EB gets considered - but I buy only a small percentage of those, the ones that make sense. I have bought some that EB says are worth reg fee also, again, they made sense.

EB is helpful in the early stages of decisions, but don't start thinking that you are going to get those kinds of prices.

I don't even bother with estibot for totally new regs. But for previously regged / dropped names, I'll sometimes run them through estibot to see what it says out of curiousity - I don't rely on it.

Estibot fluctuates a lot even on current registrations - I see domains going up and down by huge amounts over the course of time ... estibot is still a work in progress, though an interesting one to play around with - one can get some interesting insights, especially the related links shown on the right-hand side of the appraisal results.

Don't really use Estibot to make purchasing decisions. I've only used it a couple of times before making a decision on some .info ones
