This made the fox news channel the other day. The new "All the Rage/rave whatever" 100% natural, earths most potent hallucinogenic known to man. Legal in 47 states and easily bought in head shops. Teenagers, highschool, middle school students are smoking it like crazy.

Salvia

Go to youtube and do a search for it, educate yourself on it and keep on eye out for it if you have kids. Youtube vids on this stuff are just insane.

Well I guess my kids are the oddity, I have two. A 19 and a 15 year old and we live in Los Angeles. Pfft, we even have a sage bush thats in our herb garden as well. Hasnt been touched. The plant doesnt look like the same type of sage we have though. So maybe its a good thing.

Either thats way thats just crazy.... Anything for a cheap thrill I guess.

Did the search and found a decient documentary on Salvia Divinorum...About 7 minutes. Its to bad its an endorsement of the stuff. And one of the last comments made by one of the "trial users" was that he felt like a kid at Christmas again.

To be honest, and this is coming from a teenager, I wouldn't worry to much about this. Most teens are smart enough to stay away from such things. Some teens may try something like this once or twice, but for the most part, teens don't do stuff like this. This is coming from an average teen as well, I'm not a "nerd" or a "jock" or anything, just your basic teen. I've never tried anything like this, and neither have most of my friends, so I don't see it as something you should really worry about.

You're a Canadian....it's not the same as American teenager. We have rampant drug use here by teens.

Being Canadian or American shouldn't make to much of a difference. The countries are basically one, but i can see where you are coming from. Either way I wouldn't see it as to much of a threat, there are things a lot worse than this.

I stand in the same place as Commes.

I am a teen, and most of us have enough common sense to not go out and smoke everything that grows.

It all depends on your group of friends IMO. All of my buddies have done/do drugs quite often. As well as a lot of people I know at school, it is not uncommon here in suburbs.

Take this from personal experiences. I have smoked salvia on a couple occasions, and I know others who have done the same. Don't believe what these articles are saying. Salvia has been used for many years. The biggest problem I have found is that it is supposed to be the hardest drug known to man as far as the "trip" goes. The thing with salvia is that it doesn't last as long as other drugs. Usually lasts for 5-15 minutes. The only real harm known to happen to your body at this point is the smoke in your lungs.

And for those worried about your salvia bushes, don't. This is a particular type of salvia, it's called salvia divinorum. I can assure you that none of y'all have it growing in your yards. It's quite expensive, and not typically used for decoration.

I do research before trying new things. Salvia is a harmless plant that people misunderstand.

I don't want to give you a bad image, but this is exactly what people tell me about marijuana.

They simply don't think its bad.
It may not be like to other hard drugs, but I know that its not good for you.

Smoking anything can't be healthy.
I'm almost positive that smoking anything harms you somehow...

Also from personal experience, it is harmless aside from a little tar in your lungs, but that comes with smoking anything. There has never been a proven case of any medical problem associated with marijuana. I smoked the stuff 10-15 times a day for 2 years straight and never experienced a problem, and many times before that. I've been clean now for 8 months now. I even know people who have been doing it for many many years and have no problems. Many go to large universities and have great GPAs.

Many people think smoking marijuana is just as harmful as
smoking tobacco, but this is not true. Those who hold that
marijuana is equivalent to tobacco are misinformed. Due to the
efforts of various federal agencies to discourage use of
marijuana in the 1970's the government, in a fit of "reefer
madness," conducted several biased studies designed to return
results that would equate marijuana smoking with tobacco smoking,
or worse.
For example the Berkeley carcinogenic tar studies of the
late 1970's concluded that "marijuana is one-and-a-half times as
carcinogenic as tobacco." This finding was based solely on the
tar content of cannabis leaves compared to that of tobacco, and
did not take radioactivity into consideration. (Cannabis tars do
not contain radioactive materials.) In addition, it was not
considered that:
1) Most marijuana smokers smoke the bud, not the leaf, of
the plant. The bud contains only 33% as much tar as tobacco.
2) Marijuana smokers do not smoke anywhere near as much as
tobacco smokers, due to the psychoactive effects of cannabis.
3) Not one case of lung cancer has ever been successfully
linked to marijuana use.
4) Cannabis, unlike tobacco, does not cause any narrowing of
the small air passageways in the lungs.
In fact, marijuana has been shown to be an expectorant and
actually dilates the air channels it comes in contact with. This
is why many asthma sufferers look to marijuana to provide relief.
Doctors have postulated that marijuana may, in this respect, be
more effective than all of the prescription drugs on the market.
Studies even show that due to marijuana's ability to clear
the lungs of smog, pollutants, and cigarette smoke, it may
actually reduce your risk of emphysema, bronchitis, and lung
cancer. Smokers of cannabis have been shown to outlive non-
smokers in some areas by up to two years. Medium to heavy
tobacco smokers will live seven to ten years longer if they also
smoke marijuana.
Cannabis is also radically different from tobacco in that it
does not contain nicotine and is not addictive. The psychoactive
ingredient in marijuana, THC, has been accused of causing brain
and genetic damage, but these studies have all been disproven.
In fact, the DEA's own Administrative Law Judge Francis Young has
declared that "marijuana in its natural form is far safer than
many foods we commonly consume." Source: Erowid

Would you rather smoke cigarettes and get cancer? Each cigarette takes 5 minutes off your life, i'd rather have my kids smoke Cannabis.

Also something else interesting:
Nicotine, the active ingredient in tobacco smoke, has long
been known to be highly addictive. In fact, doctors and
pharmacologists are not in consensus as to which is more addictive
-- nicotine, or heroin. Physical addiction occurs when a chemical
becomes essential for the body or metabolism to function.

Also:

Tobacco crops grown in the United States are fertilized by law
with phosphates rich in radium 226. In addition, many soils have
a natural radium 226 content. Radium 226 breaks down into two long
lived 'daughter' elements -- lead 210 and polonium 210. These
radioactive particles become airborne, and attach themselves to the
fine hairs on tobacco leaves.
Studies have shown that lead 210 and polonium 210 deposits
accumulate in the bodies of people exposed to cigarette smoke.
Data collected in the late 1970's shows that smokers have three
times as much of these elements in their lower lungs as non
smokers. Smokers also show a greater accumulation of lead 210 and
polonium 210 in their skeletons, though no studies have been
conducted to link these deposits with bone cancer. Polonium 210 is
the only component of cigarette smoke which has produced tumors by
itself in inhalation experiments with animals.
When a smoker inhales tobacco smoke, the lungs react by
forming irritated areas in the bronchi. All smoke produces this
effect. However, although these irritated spots are referred to as
'pre-cancerous' lesions, they are a perfectly natural defense
system and usually go away with no adverse effects. Insoluble tars
in tobacco smoke can slow this healing process by adhering to
lesions and causing additional irritation. In addition, tobacco
smoke causes the bronchi to constrict for long periods of time,
which obstructs the lung's ability to clear itself of these
residues.
