Do you favor sellers who post in other sections at NPs?

I think that in an ideal world, we'd all buy from people who share their thoughts, expertise, humor, and assistance in other places at NPs, instead of those who only post in the for sale sections.

What are your thoughts?

(I may start doing this - at least when I can;t decide whether to purchase or not - I'll let that be the coin flip)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I for one can say that I do...

I'm much more inclined to do business with forum regulars that have low TR than people with low TR + no presence in the forum. Taking the time to post day after day for months on end is somewhat of a trustmark.. How many people are going to do that each and everyday just so they can scam someone on a $50 PayPal chargeback?

I'm also much more inclined to give forum regulars bulk discounts or even push the domain before receiving payment -- I know I can count on them to deliver what they promise.

Lastly, I like giving discounts to people who share the same interests as me (short domains) and express them on Namepros. I like seeing domains go to good homes where I know they'll be put to good use (either developed or not resold for a long time).

That is really nice to hear. Its so frustrating that more people are gravitating to just selling when they learn the ropes - like even though people around here taught them everything they know, they don't want to be the next generation to share with newbies!

One thing I think alot of people may not realize is that there are monetary rewards to helping people, on top of the satisfaction of knowing you're making a very real difference in someone's life.

I've had sellers push me $XX,XXX domains before I even submit payment to them just based on my good reputation. I've also had many domainers tip me off on good deals they found but decided to pass on. I've received free advertising on some people's blogs/sites and many people have helped broker some of my domains absolutely free of charge. One gentleman developed the logo for my blog absolutely free of charge and even offered to do the same for my most recent development...

All this as a thank you for helping them get started, helping them better invest their money, and/or providing that little bit of extra encouragement that they felt really made a difference.

While I'd do it just to hear the Before/After stories many of these domainers have been ever so kind as to share with me, it's nice to see people return the favor.

i don't know if i'd go that far, but i also favour members who actually contribute to the community, instead of trying to corner their own section of the forum or only sell things.

If they are active contributors to the community then yes I would tend to have more trust when dealing with them. But low post numbers doesn't necessarily mean that the person is not trust worthy or even less knowledgeable.

yeah i wud have mor etrust dealing to a regular who post on forum discussion always who have 10 feedback only compared to a person wif 20 feedback but ive never seen before.. the presence in the forum discussion thread makes a big diffrence.

I prefer people who are likeminded and post in the areas I post in. Will it stop me from selling to someone with 0 TR and 3 posts, no but I will be more cautious.
