is it that browsers are set up to default to .com vs .info ?

that's why .coms are more valuable than .net / .info

i have fishoils.net which will never end up getting the traffic that fishoils.com will get ..... is it that simple ?

will there come a day when browsers demand the tld extension ?

.coms are more valueable because they were the first or one of the first extensions. Most people know it best. If you want to buy a computer, you may type in computer.com but rarely type in computer.net. Will there be a day when .net prices are the same or higher than .com? Who knows, it is possible but not likely.

if this default was not active, you could be forced to add a tld (i.e. .net .info) etc

this would effectively reduce the value of the .com domain

Why don't you try it?

The main reason .coms are more valuable / get more traffic is higher public awareness. It's not that browsers default to .com, it's that people do.
