:hi:
There was this one name I registered with 1and1 about an year back and I transfered it to name.com about 3 weeks back and today I get this email from "1&1 Internet Team"

from 1&1 Internet Team <[email protected]>

Customer ID: 14785xxx

Dear Srivatsan Hari,

We at 1&1 Internet have noticed that you have changed the name server of
your XXXXXX.com domain. Your new settings are:

DNS1: ns1.toadhost.com
DNS2: ns2.toadhost.com
DNS3: not set
DNS4: not set
(new DNS set at name.com)

Because of these new settings, your website hosted with 1&1 Internet can
no longer be reached via the XXXXXX.com domain. The e-mail addresses
included in your Developer Package, if any, have also been disabled.

(I neither paid for a Developer Package nor have any email addresses!)

If you still intend to keep using our services, you can enter the
following name servers with your registrar by June 11, 2008 at 01:37:02 AM and continue using our services as usual.

DNS1: ns1.fastpark.net
DNS2: ns2.fastpark.net

Entering Namedrive's DNS would point me to 1and1's sever??!

If by June 11, 2008 at 01:37:02 AM you have not registered with our name servers, we will
remove the XXXXXX.com domain from our systems. If you want to use your
domain with your 1&1 Package after June 11, 2008 at 01:37:02 AM, you can specify this
configuration on the Control Panel once more and enter the name servers
specified there with your registrar.

If you want to keep the current name servers, we kindly request you to
inform our support and/or host masters. They will then delete the
XXXXXX.com domain from our systems.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our support team
using the contact form in your Control Panel. You can access your Control
Panel using the following link:
https://admin.1and1.com.
Please click on the button 'Help & Contact' to access the form.

You may also like to know that you can register your .com, .net, .org,
.info, .name and .us domains directly with the 1&1 group. For more details
please go to www.1and1.com.

Sincerely,

Your 1&1 Team

I don't know what they're problem is, they just seem incompetent to me. I tried to reg a domain there about a month ago, but it wasn't available right away it said "registration pending" or some crap. Fine whatever, I checked back the next day, did a whois and it still wasn't even regged. I went to godaddy and bought it there, and it was regged and available immediately as you would expect from a registrar. What a joke of a "registrar", wtf are they hand regging domains for their customers or something?

Over 2 weeks ago now I sold a domain, the buyer wanted it transferred to 1&1. I agreed reluctantly, as of today it still hasn't been transferred, and the buyer is pissed at me. I'm just not going to deal with 1&1 anymore period. What they have cash to throw at 8 page advertising spreads but can't handle a simple domain registration or transfer? Get real.

1and1 have caused me nothing but problems.
Over 2 years ago my father registered me my first domain for my birthday with them, it was a .co.uk for 2 years - the domain was set not to renew.

Renewal day came and we left the domain, a few weeks later they sent us a letter demanding payment for ยฃ10 for the domain (double the reg fee?!) and some extra ยฃ7 for some email thing I'd never heard of. Eventually we ended up paying nearly ยฃ40 because they threatened with bailiff and and court action.

Useless company, should be avoided.

Get used to it  I'm still getting Billing Statements via Snail Mail over Domains I've had at other Registrars for over 2 years ;)

That is very very strange that they are asking you to put these nameservers:

DNS1: ns1.fastpark.net
DNS2: ns2.fastpark.net

They do not own that domain name, it is owned by an individual and the domain fastpark.net is itself parked at namedrive.

I use 1and1 for all my domain registering cuz they are cheap. I have never had a problem with them, but they seem to be messing up with you lol.

1&1 are pathetic! I would never reg another name with them again nor would I buy a domain from anyone if it was registered there, they would have to move it out before I would touch it! You have to jump through hoops to get a domain transfered away from there then you also have to remember to cancel at https://cancel.1and1.com or they will continue to charge you renewal fee's even though they no longer have it at their registry........Stay away!!!

was poking around on google just to see if anyone had anything good to say about 1&1, and wow i'm shocked, how the hell are these guys allowed to stay in business? This sounds about as crooked and fraudulent as it gets.

Unbelievable , now i'm worried because they have my cc# ...

and of course the BBB report

Customer Experience
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaint(s).
Customer Complaint Data
Number of complaints processed by the BBB over the last 36 months: 515
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in the last 12 months: 253

Don't go near this company...

Maybe:

Because of these new settings, your website hosted with 1&1 Internet can
no longer be reached via the XXXXXX.com domain. The e-mail addresses
included in your Developer Package, if any, have also been disabled.
That message you got sounds like an autoresponse to 1&1 users who are also
using their webhosting services along with the domain name. Just disregard it
if you intend to use Namedrive's DNS.

OTOH, you might want to check your billing, too.

.

lol. 1&1 is a mystery to me. when i started with them i had all of these troubles - 3 days for a reg to go through (i'd give up, get it at godaddy, and 1&1 would charge me for "trying"

i made a point of complaining each time and then one day all their problems suddenly stopped! they became as good as godaddy, and quite a bit cheaper.
:p

the only thing though is it's hard to move names (if you sell), which is the last problem that stops me from using them.

They have been threatening me with court action for the last 6 months but nothing has happened yet. There trying to make me pay for packages I never bought and things I already had payed for.

There customer service is an absolute JOKE. Don't get me started though... I could tell some ridiculous stories about them.

Once it took 6 days and 2 emails and a phone call to change my nameservers.

Has anyone had problems transferring out of 1and1? I am really interested in acquiring a domain from an np'er but I will not sign up for an account there after reading all the horrible reviews. I am wondering if any users have had success transferring out of 1and1.

I transferred some domains from 1&1 to namecheap but they were one's that I had reg'd with them originally. Took about 2 weeks or so to complete the transfer. Just make sure once it is complete that you delete the domains from 1&1 or they will automatically charge you renewal fee's when they are due even though the domains are with another registry.

Stay away from 1and1

I am now 1and1 free but I still receives some invoices. They are like parasite that won't go away.

I picked up a few cheap .info's about a week ago, I only just got the receipt. The names took hours before they even showed up in my account and then when they finally did I tried to change the name servers in bulk but I had to do one at a time (what a pain). They never gave me the option to set name servers at registration. They seem to make it really hard, they definitely need their developers to wake up as it really is a bit of a joke (the interface & system).

I "owe" 1and1 a few hundred dollars from a couple years ago when they auto-regged domains without my approval, even with my explicit disapproval. They sent threatening emails, sent me threatening snail mail, etc., but after responding to them and threatening to sue, then doing chargebacks on my credit card, they don't contact me anymore.

I never, ever buy domains from anyone who has their domains at 1and1. This has left my without some pretty cool domains at good prices before, but it's just SUCH a hassle dealing with it. You have to (or at least you used to have to) send them a fax, call a phone number, and jump through all sorts of hoops to get a domain out of that place.

If any domainer wants to sell you a domain registered with 1+1 insist that they get it transferred to another registrar before you will consider buying.
1+1 total rubbish No.1
