HoloLand.com dropped tonight......who caught it?
I see HoloCompany.com drops too in 3 days

would you believe... about three days ago...i did a scan of holo names.
HoloLand was one of the names in the scan... this was through godaddy...

... the name (hololand) comes up as available... so me, not thinking twice - i buy the name
... i get the order confirmation from goaddy and everything
... about two hours later - i get the email from godaddy saying they were unable to register this name for me
... that was when i checked whois and saw the name was dropping - i didn't know at the time this was a dropping name... i thought i just found myself a pretty decent name
... so they refunded me my money

... can't say i was heartbroken... but disappointed

This is a glitch at GD, and it happens too often. Always wise to double check the availability, and it generally shows unavailable if you search it the second time.

I was searching the drops last night and couldn't stop myself from backordering a .cc. I doubt it will pay off but I got holograms.cc I figured it was worth the risk.

Always check at other registrars if it shows as available at GD, its only because their domain database is not live

that was actually my drop... i had a hard time dropping it because it had been registered concurrently from 1999... this really doesn't mean anything but for some reason it made it hard for me to drop.
... the main reason i dropped this though was because of all the new extensions.
i wish you luck with it :)

I agree that all the new extensions have probably killed the value, if there even was much value before. I figured for $100 I can hold for 3 or so years to see what happens. Did you have the domain for very long? Or were you the original registrant?

no - not the original registrant
... like you - i bought it on gda - it had been registered straight through since 1999 so now i had to have it... makes no sense, i know... but..
i bought it i think four years ago.
renewed it a few times, but .cc was expensive to renew i think (?)

it was and will remain the only .cc i have ever had or will have
.. if there was a good thing, i paid attention to .cc sales to see what the possibility of this name could be and they were far and few in between - and the ones that were sold - were for peanuts in comparison to other extensions.
all told, i think i think i spent around $75 for four years of that name and decided to finally cut my losses.

i do wish you luck with it though.
... make something happen that i never did!!

This is going to help me with my mortgage whilst I am out of work still -

Reached to an end-user and sold these 3 through sedo today

HoloWatch.com - $1,700
HoloCity.com - $700
HoloGolf.com - $650

Not ideal amounts but sold for $3,050 and I bought all 3 a week ago for $350.........all helps me to pay my mortgage... :)

Job interview this afternoon so fingers crossed.

Cheers

Stu

Ok I'm in.

HoloCall.com - 11 years old

HoloCalls definitely make sense for conferencing, meetings etc etc.

Reminds me of Star Wars.

It sounds like a decent name to me. Nice one for some crap slinging contests.:xf.grin::P:xf.eek:

@Nitindomains It IS a decent name, I am surprised it was even available when you mentioned it first.

For next trends like Holo, is there a database of keywords to run domain name availability against...like Holo<keyword>

I am noting down every keyword mentioned in this thread and next time a new trend comes up I will run a script check for <NextTrend><Keyword>.com and <Keyword><NextTrend>.com

but would be nice if there was a ready to use word database ;)

That's a very productive thought, and i would add to it that handpick only those keywords that have a sales history as well. As, not all Holo + (keywords) mentioned are amongst the best. :)

That is a good suggestion! Prioritizing keywords that have sales History.

can u tell us a little more about your transactions stu?
one buyer?... three different buyers?
how long did it take for u to close each deal?
how did u go about finding your buyer(s)?
of all the names you have, what made you choose those three to try and sell?
so you contacted buyers and used sedo for all three?
how did you come up with your pricing? we're there any negotiations?
... give us some details
