discuss Discuss and Showcase Drone Domain Names

NamecheapNamecheap
Watch
I have recently read that the drone industry is trying to change the word "drone" to something different.

The word "drone" has a very bad rep. for obvious reasons.

What do you think will happen with the word "drone" and drone domain names?

Feel free to showcase your drone domain names on this thread.

Hydrones

I like the potential double meaning - Hy for hydrogen, and Hy for 'High'. With flight times like that, 'high' could be a key feature of those drones.

Thanks, a lot of sales, but the prices are not impressive, only two names going over mid xxxx, dronecam/com and drone/academy.

That list, of drone sales in the last 6 months, coincides with, and likely reflects, the domainer-to-domainer 'sales' of folks who admittedly sold cheap for personal reasons, as well as market manipulation reasons as they bashed values, claimed Drones would never get off the ground, and so on... as they were trying to buy good names cheap behind the scenes.

This is more evident if you take a look at sales prices before the last 6 months... when DomainTools only shows 1 drone sale below $100 going all the way back to 2008.

@eyedominus

this has been going on for all sorts of trends/tech niches in the past few years, but there is one more reason to all this.. it's not about the products when it comes to UAS/UAV (or commonly called drones, the professional UAS/UAV community doesn't even call them that though unless in the media) but about the services possible.. therefore you won't ever see "drone" domains hit 5 figures or even 6.. except for drone.com/drones.com themself..

ps: one more hint, the very premium and even more matching UAV.com has been purchased by General Atomics for mid 5 figures, now go figure..

Heya bro,

Would disagree here.
Have had couple of offers in the high xxxx range, with buyers saying they would come with when they had more money about the low 5 figure range I had quoted.

Also DroneCam sold for 19k itself, so lots of room.

yes Nitin, there are few exceptions which are truly category defining/killing which work with the consumer masses such as dronecam, toydrones and some others.. but i did refer to the list posted above.. most of those won't sell for 5 figures (clear 5 figures, not 10-15k sales) even in the next 2-3 years.. but time will tell anyway..

GA got a bargain with UAV.com. I wouldnt have let it go for any less than six figures.

I also think the industry is still in its baby years and has plenty of growth to go yet.

True, totally agree there.

Been getting lots of action over a few names like DroneFishing (Have it in a joint venture with a friend) / DronesOnline/ DroneFeed.
Have had as good as 4 offers in last 5 days on 3 drone names, out of the total 9 offers I have had in last 5 days. Seems like some good action is back.

I just had a serious inquiry for vrdrone (king) - from a company.
Any feedback on how to price this?
Thanks!
Some key questions:
1. Are you in desperate need for the money?
2. Have you had many/any other offers?

Its difficult to price because it is very niche (Virtual reality drones).

Probably not really helped much, but best of luck! :)

The list I posted is what people see when they research past sales within the drone namespace on DomainTools.com ... so to say it has "nothing to do with drones" is clearly wrong.

Of course, not every domain with the word drone in it is in the Drone business, but the fact that the University of Antelope Valley has a developed site and is not in the UAV business does not mean the value of their domain name, UAV.org, has nothing to do with the rise, and/or fall, of the UAV industry.

While I agree its not just about drones as products, its about the services... but they call those Drone Services, far more than UAV Services. Also consider, a leading Org in the "professional UAS/UAV community", UAVSA.org, is the organizer of the International Drone Convention.

no, it's not "drone services" either.. i am in the UAS/UAV business already for over half a year and i do know quite well what's going on behind the curtains.. whether in europe or overseas in the US, there are certain blanket terms being used in the UAS/UAV community, "Aerial" being the leading one as many such aerial applications have been performed already by helicopters or planes, long before drones existed, and are already established in the industry

ps: feel free to get a better insight into the aerial services/application market by reading up on uasmagazine.com , suasnews.com and unmanned-aerial.com on a daily basis..

plus dont rule exact matches to all sorts of related sub products/services, as the industry grows. Even if just a redirect that has plenty of type in traffic etc.

Glad to hear your in the biz. What are you doing?

Don't assume I'm not in the biz, I am; or that I don't follow those sources, and much more, everyday; I do.

But, personally being in the biz Does Not validate ones' view on which term rules the day. Data does.

My point was we as domainers cant excited about drone sales when they arent drone sales, thats all Im saying. When you say "people" research on domaintools, I assume you mean domainers? If thats the case, we should know not to include that as they are not drone sales, I certainly wouldnt include them in my stats just to inflate them, I just want real drone sales

Regarding end-users, 99% of end-users wont be going to namebio or dnjournal to check past sales before making an offer, if they want the name, they will have a budget and thats it, past sales dont really come into it.

aye aye, i won't comment further anymore then if data can't even be interpreted correctly (hint: services & applications for commercial market, trends for consumer markets plus too short timeframe since introduction of uas/uav/drones) here.. go about on your drone domains while i close my deal with Aerialtronics in the coming months and exit the domaining business on a nice 7 figure pillow.. enjoy folks
