Drones deliver food and beverages to theme park tourists in SHENZHEN, CHINA

Meituan's drone delivery service has debuted at a theme park in Shenzhen, flying food and beverages to tourists visiting The Window of the World resort.

The delivery drones are supplied and loaded at the Yitian Holiday Plaza, one kilometer from the park.

More than 100,000 drone deliveries were made to Shenzhen in 2022, Meituan said.

Pizza delivery by drone in SEATTLE

Pagliacci Pizza is partnering with Zipline to begin drone delivery to customers in the Seattle area.

Matt Galvin, co-owner of Pagliacci, said the drones allow for faster delivery and wider reach than what is possible with the chain's driver team of 250.

"Many of the addresses around our locations are hard for our drivers to reach," Galvin said. "Either they’re too far away or they’re difficult to get to, and this [drone delivery] affords us the opportunity to easily do that."

Aviant delivering takeout orders by drone in TRONDHEIM, NORWAY

Aviant is using drones to deliver takeout food orders to customers in Trondheim, Norway, under the brand name Kyte.

Meals are winched to customers from a height of 100 ft. (30 meters).

Aviant will add more markets in southern Norway this autumn.

Flytrex wants to expand food delivery by drone in NORTH CAROLINA​

Flytrex, which delivers food by drone to backyards in three North Carolina locations, hopes to expand to a dozen, including Cary, Wake Forest, and other areas in Charlotte and Wake County.

After users order the food from a list of restaurants and grocery stores on the app, Flytrex runners pick-up and deliver the food to a launch site where pilots program the drone to fly to a specified location.

The drones fly at 300 feet and lower to about 80 feet before dropping the food to the drop-off location.

Food delivery by drone is just part of daily life in SHENZHEN

Meituan doesn’t have the drones deliver directly to your doorstep. Instead, the company has set up pickup kiosks close to residential or office buildings. Drones drop off deliveries at the kiosks, which can hold several packages at once.

The process allows every drone to fly a predetermined route, from one launchpad to one kiosk, making the task of navigating urban areas much easier.
