I have recently read that the drone industry is trying to change the word "drone" to something different.

The word "drone" has a very bad rep. for obvious reasons.

What do you think will happen with the word "drone" and drone domain names?

Drones as a whole are not limited to just flight.
An aerial drone, yes is unlikely to take the position of a train.
That's not to say that with more advancements the railways couldn't benefit from unmanned transport.

I don't see delivery drones "taking off" at all. Too many privacy and logistical issues.

Ironically, Alibaba launched their 3 city drone delivery trial today. Making 450 tea deliveries.

Trains crash. Planes crash. Cars crash. Bikes crash. Those industries are still viable delivery/transport methods that have not been stopped due to crashing.

reg. Aerial delivery via drones..

first, payload needs to be increased first for deliveries to become truly useful (in a survey conducted just few months ago people were asked what they would prefer to have delivered via drones -> it was small gifts and emergency medicine which are still light enough)

second, aerial delivery via drones opens another potential legal minefield (nevertheless of autonomous systems for the drones themselves) in terms of responsibility should the goods be dropped by accident/failure..

nevertheless DHL, UPS, DHS, Amazon, Alibaba and Google are already experimenting on aerial delivery systems.. most promising system here is a quadcopter thanks to hovering abilities, but also other systems are being explored with.. stay tuned, aerial delivery may become a reality (at least in europe and asia thanks to absence of FAA) sooner than most here expect..
still, there will be many other aerial applications being commercially available (inspections, investigations, monitoring, conservation, broadcasting etc..) before aerial delivery becomes a norm..

Also, more exemptions from the FAA for commercial droning. Another real estate exemption. That's 16 out of supposedly 300 applications have been approved- almost 20%.

as long as FAA still requires pilot licenses to operate an UAS/UAV (even for simple commercial operations/tasks such as imaging or filming) the market won't have a chance to develop naturally.. these special exemptions are just like droplets, holding back the US way too much.. Europe and Asia (also Canada) will get an competitive edge here and US will have some catching up to do over the next years..

I have received a low-ball xxx offer on what the experienced here said was probably my best drone domain.

I have no idea about negotiation or the best way to proceed with a reasonable counter offer, & Sedo seems to allow only one price that I can respond with that is then binding...

Would any of the experienced domainers here care to offer any advice? Obviously there are many here who know exactly the right procedure to procure a great selling price. In fact, I find it amazing that no-one here has produced a tutorial for sale that outlines the best strategies to successfully negotiate a domain sale, as I would surely purchase something like that.

I would say just counter at the very high end of what you think the domain is worth. Then continue negotiating within the range you're comfortable. You have to modify that strategy depending on your current situation (financial need, etc.).

IMHO a $xxx on an emerging market name isn't lowball, unless it's truly amazing.

This already is the situation i.e the US is now behind in civil / commercial application of UAVs. However the UAV lobby there are quite active and strong.

They are doing a lot to get as many lawmakers on board to make a compelling case to congress and make things happen.
