The .mobi snake oil people claim that all the big boys are behind them.

Fine.

So I go visit some of the major big boys websites that are supposed to be

behind this thing and guess what I find ?

Go to Microsoft.com ... Intel.com ... Nokia.com ... RIM.com ... Palm.com

etc etc and do a search for .MOBI and guess what people !

Not ONE word about .mobi ... nada ... zero ... zilch ... as if the domain

doesn't even exist. Am I making a tuna fish out of a .mobi or do you

think it doesn't matter ? You know, if its supposed to be better for mobile

for starters why did they not just make it a .M for crying out loud !!!

:o

Here is a BIG company promoting their .mobi for MOBILE devices

http://money.cnn.com/services/mobile/

Bottom of page www.CNNmoney.com

Also read that they have a print ad of their .mobi service/site in either Forbes or Fortune Magazine.(not sure where I read that though)

Hope that calms you down a bit...either sit tight and watch it unfold or maybe do some research on how to develop a quality .mobi site

no worries man. All that money is just to get the ball rolling. It took 5 years just to get the internet to the masses, now 10,000 people a day are joining us :)

I still can't believe that NOKIA, PALM, RIM, MICROSOFT have NOTHING about

.mobi on their websites and these players a CRITICAL for this thing

Come back and kick me in 10 years, but I only registered a couple for the same reasons. I didn't hear anything about it on TV or in the papers.

I had to come here for my .mobi hype! I still remember the .com news when it all began!

it's possible they're still researching it. Let's remember that a lot of phones (in the US anyway) still don't exactly access web pages in useable ways, and not that many companies have good mobile-ready pages yet. I think the first big players in the .mobi market will be the video, music, games and news companies since more and more phones are heading towards being all-in-one devices. Music and tv .mobi should really get going soon. (All my opinion, of course.)

It's much too early to draw any conclusions. The potential for .Mobi is sky-high, especially if it becomes the default standard on new mobile devices, as some have suggested it will.

But... to entertain your "snake oil" suggestion...

What if the mainstream business world came together with a plan to burn all of the *evil cybersquatters*. They create a new domain extension, and base it on mobile technology, something everybody knows about. The concept attracts people, it sounds exciting and high tech. They charge higher than average registration fees, and make you register for 2 years minimum upfront, instead of 1. They also create restrictions, forcing you to develop the domains, or at least comply with basic mobile standards, or else they can take the names away from you. Now, you've spent your money, and you are scrambling to figure out what to do with the names, and ultimately they can snatch them from you, leaving you no money AND no names. Meanwhile... they just sit back and laugh as we rush to spend our cash faster than we can earn it.

Corporate world's revenge on the domainer?

Or just a silly tale created on an early Sunday morning in a domain forum?

Hmmmmmm..... :alien:

Blame cosmicray. He started it.

Not surprising... I agree with the snake oil assessment.. .mobi is just another domain moneyraiser that will never attain widespread acceptance IMO. I could be eating my words someday but I don't see it happening.

Why would an established site with WAP emulation bother pumping loads of capital into a .mobi site when they already have a WAP .com?
