I just had an idea.

If I could develop all 250 of my "keeper" .mobi domains, and make just ONE DOLLAR a day from each of them, that would be $91,000 of annual income.

When I think about it in those terms, it makes me want to get started.

Anyone have any idea how long that would take to develop all of those?

Ok, here's what I've decided. I'm going to develop my adult domains, that's going to be my specialty. I think I have about 20 of them.

Developing 250 .mobi sites is one thing, but as people have pointed out, you also need to spend time and money to PROMOTE them, which is just not feasible for 250.

Also, I have a domain I registered specifically for development that is going to be developed within the month that's going to knock your socks off. That's my real baby....

The bottom line is this:

We know the mobile web is coming. If we can get development and promotion going, our .mobi sites can be successful regardless of whether the .mobi extention "makes it" or not.

The ironic thing is that development and promotion of .mob sites is what is going to MAKE .mobi take off. Full circle....

Personally, I'm just sick of sitting and waiting for something to happen.

The time has come for all of us to start making things happen. :imho:

We don't need to wait for major corps to start backing & promoting. We have a goldmine right at our fingertips here. (Again, because we KNOW the mobile web is coming, that's not even disputed).

Definitely could not have said it better :tu:

I think there's a huge market for not only people developing sites which could obviously be successful (based on stereotypical mobile applications), but for those who think outside the box.

Take a peek at: http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Main_Page

There's an example of an idea not so different from the Million Dollar Homepage which rocked the net awhile ago... Yet he put his own little spin on it and is having great success... We need to think like him. How can we make content which is designed for PCs mobile friendly? Granted 90%+ of regged .mobis are not related to the "generally accepted" applications (adult content, music, ringtones, weather, news,...), we'll have to find some way to monetize the other 90%!

How much it will cost you to host all those 250 mobi sites ?

Hosting is cheap in comparison to the money you could bring in (become a hosting reseller and for a few bucks a month to keep things simple).

My only suggesstion to garrett is to go with your newer point: niche. Its not the quantity of developed sites, its truely going to be the quality. I think this is REALLY the case for .mobi. Have one quality developed domain and build upon it.

"build quality and they will come"
:)

I agree wholeheartedly with that concept, and that is exactly what my plan is.

Do you know yet what hosting company you will use? What is a good hosting company and package to use in the situation described below:

You will develop 50-100 sites, but most probably not huge bandwidth and you need to be able to accept credit card on at least 2 or more different sites (and want to maintain separate brand for each site ie. not forward to one and same shopping cart).

I'd recommend to do a search on hosting reseller.
You'll get the max number of domains and bandwith for a low monthly fee.
As for the cart, go with a simple php script.

I own 100 approx mobis but have no time or inclination to learn how to make them myself. The hardest part I have found is finding quality, reasonably priced, developers with the ability to understand my concepts quickly and easily to actually make the sites for me.

How about a group of you talented site creators start some form of developmentcoop.mobi site for people like me that needs sites made. I know that lot of people out there are in the same position I am in.

I am in this situation also. This would be great!

I can't help but think at least good part of the answer should lie with mTLD and its "backers" (though very little evidence seen thus far with the size and scope from these investors) -and/including- the development and optimization of the reserved/premium/RFP's into the "ecosystem" IMHO. Time is of the essence, from a technological standpoint, in my personal view. :talk:
Great post, Gary.

They will start auctioning off some premium names in October of this year. Wish it was sooner, but at least the time is drawing near. BTW, Garrett has inspired me, and I have begun development for SanDiegoCity.mobi

Auctioning? October? I guess that's progress ... but what about the RFP's?!? :yell: :|
It's CRITICAL for the "ecosystem" that these RFP's be in the hands of developers, IMHO.

Also, at the previous auctions ... the marquee .MOBI's ended up, for the most part and if not all, in the hands of the Usual Suspectsโ„ข and remain undeveloped today, in my opinion. Are there any from these auctions that are fully developed with unique and compelling content for use by those, that are right now, "on the go" IYHO? :talk:
Thanks for the kind assist.

BTW, Garrett has inspired me ...

Me too, IMHO. :gl:

Could you provide the source of that specific date that you stated? Thank you.
