It's official, I now have exactly 200 .mobi's. Now, if I could just find a way to make a dollar a day each from them, I'd be set!

I think it's time to stop, because the renewal fees are going to kill me.

I'm thinking of putting some up on the aftermarket, getting a little cash, and then taking that cash and buying one or two REALLY GOOD names on the aftermarket.

Whatcha think?? Good idea?

Recent regs are not selling well since most people are actively trying to find their own new regs. I would focus on monetizing your domains beyond the pennies from parking. Consider your parking stats in selecting names to build. Pick one of your higher traffic names and start building.

Thanks, Scandiman. The realization is that in 6 months I start seeing renewal fees, and even at $10.99, it's about $2200 for all the domains.

I don't want to be stuck with that every year. Maybe I'll wait a bit to see if the market takes off more within the next 6 mo.

Focus on income and the renewals don't matter. I doubt the guys with gigantic portfolios of .com names are sweating the reg fees. They focus on income, how to generate it and increase it. Like you said initially, if you figure out how to earn a dollar a day then you are set. Chances are then you won't find it too difficult to then double it to 2 bucks and so on.

Right, but I'm certainly not going to develop 200 names. Ever tried that?

Who cares if they're recent regs if the names you are selling are good?

Recent regs can make a difference and can also be sold for nice profits. Try to sell names you can live without and use your income from those for dev. of names you really like.

At the same time, no way. I'm working on about 10 right now and if that goes smoothly I should have at least 20 built out by the end of the year. A focused portfolio aids in this regard. I'm heavily into geo names and they all have similar build out requirements. The same would be true for most niches, be it adult, gambling, animals, travel, food, etc. I'm sure there is a niche in your portfolio that you could build on.

In principle I agree but the facts are that most folks here are trying to find their own ruby in the gravel pile of hand regs. You just have to look at the best reg threads to see it happening. I'm not trying to discourage you from selling names, just sharing my observations.

hmmmmmmm, now you got me thinking....nice advice, thanks.

The niche would either be adult, or geo specific financial (i have a string of city specific loan related .mobi's, the template would be exactly the same for all of them).

Excellent. Don't neglect your category killers though, even if you have only one name in the category. For example, your SSI has lots of potential IMO. We all know our good friend vcool has championed his category killer DIR.mobi into something grand.

I guess that we have to wait for june auction results first before I can analysis what will happen 6 months later.

I think you should pick out 10% of your names that you think are solid and the ones for development, so keep around 20, and try to sell off the rest. If you can sell your remaining 180 names for $20 each that would be $3600 and then you can use that to have some of your 20 names developed and then buy like 5 solid names on the aftermarket. Then you will own a total of 25 mobi names, mostly developed, and have a decent collection. Once your developed names build traffic then you can sell and keep building up to better and better quality names. If you want you can PM me your list of 200 names and I can help tell you which ones IMO have the most potential for you to keep.

Hi nrmillion, how many .mobi do you have now? Hopes that you can share with us. Me currently have 500++ .mobi and 30++ pending for transfer from aftermarket sellers to me.

I hopes to break even at august 2007 adult live auction.

I have around 600 mobi names right now and I am still buying more on the aftermarket. I would like to have my portfolio at 500 mobi names so I will be selling about 100 of them slowly before renewals. I will keep the other 500 for several years to see how mobi does and renewing them wont be a problem since mobi is only $10 each now. $5k per year to maintain the investment is almost the same as no risk at all in .mobi. I have friends risking $300k to open gas stations and little shops so this is nothing compared to that. $5k is equal to like one college course tuition, lol.

Whoa, 200 .MOBI's is a LOT, IMHO ... lots of great advice here, I would simply add that if you'll soon be starting to prune this exposure (for instance, preparing to sell the remaining less solid / less developable, etc. 180 names at, hopefully, $20+/- / each) I would recommend doing it sooner rather than later. As you get closer to the expiration / renewal dates this can play a big factor in whether to purchase or not at least at the Wholesale level, in my experience (with all kinds of extensions). You should also seek out potential End user $Xx "Quick Sales", as well! :talk:

All the best, Garrett.

Jeff, I don't think anyone here is surprised that you would consider 200 is a lot of mobis to own :hehe:

But your advice regarding sales close to reg date is spot on for low $ wholesale markets, regardless of the extension as you said. Even the registrar involved can make a difference too.
