I just had an idea.

If I could develop all 250 of my "keeper" .mobi domains, and make just ONE DOLLAR a day from each of them, that would be $91,000 of annual income.

When I think about it in those terms, it makes me want to get started.

Anyone have any idea how long that would take to develop all of those?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I have somewhat of a gameplan. I have one domain that I reg'd specifically for development, that one is being done first.

Then, I will do all my porn domains, probably in the same template, and link them all together.

After that, I'll look at what's left and start developing the rest.

This is going to take at least a year, maybe longer.

Doing the porn research will be sheer hell.
:blink: LOL

Maybe you could get sponsored by Kleenex? LOL

and how do you get $1 a day if you have no visitors at all from names that no one knows do exist?

you can promote .mobi's via search engines,

I have done it in the past, you can just target keywords like you would for any other TLD in SE and gain traffic VIA this source.

Instead of thinking about getting started, try getting started. Note that it's not only the making of the site that takes time but also the advertising and traffic building.

Just google "local pizza search" for the answer... :cy:
OR "pizza search" (as of this writing, look at result #9, page 1 of 70.3 MILLION results)
The power of developing :tu:

Nice job with pizzaz.mobi.

In the top-10 out of 70 mil..... that is incredible.
It is also encouraging that .mobis can get high rankings

What is your secret? keywords? ads? marketing?

That's definitely going to take some time on 250 sites! And money too.

I'm going to try to not look at the whole thing at once, I'm going to just get started and do as much as I can with the time I have available.

You can't do it with parked sites. Developing is the key. I have simply submitted this site (and others) to directories such as dir.mobi and the many others that are listed here in these threads. I also link to my other sites, put out a free press release or two as time allows, and make sure my sites have key words in them that I'm going after. Nothing magical, no ads purchased, very little marketing. A few months back, the same search came up with ???. My site was lost. I gave up looking after 40 or so pages. That was in either search ("pizza search" OR "local pizza search").
Since that time, I just added "local pizza search" and "pizza search" into my tags and body and...now showing #1, page1 in the more specific "local pizza search" (out of 16.1 million results) and #9 on pizza search as stated before. Just hope this continues on!

I'm also seeing increases in my other developed mobis. :tu: It does take a little time. Just another reason to not put off developing until tomorrow. "The early bird get's the worm" certainly holds true here. The longer you wait, the longer your rise up the SE ladder, IMHO.

this thread is great, i must say.

i find myself in development denial and i'm snapping out of it. there are a couple of different skills needed here. i may need some help once i have things prioritized. :tu:

The tip calculator may have been programmed by a waitress:
I entered:
Check = $1.27
Tip = 20%
and the result came back as:
Check = $1.27
Tip = $1.25

Total = $2.52
With tips this generous, maybe all waitresses will help us by getting the word out about .mobi! ;)

probably a minimum tip? ask for a glass of water, check $0, probably should leave a buck or two to be nice.

No. Other values give errors too. Besides, no sense in making the total $2.52 instead of $2.50...

^ Palindromes, IMHO. :snaphappy: :bah:

Seriously, see FAQ's on the developed "tip" .MOBI website!

My first reaction was "WTF! A tip calculator requires a FAQ???" D-:
I would definitely add a palindrome ON/OFF button to get this moved more squearly into the "useful .mobi sites" category. :)

$1 a day

I concur with Italian dragon at this stage of the game; how can any revenue be achieved without developing a site (which takes time & money)... If you spend $1,000 in time & developing costs its going to take a long time just to break even.
When I say $1,000 - I'm including time at decent hourly rate (it's not worth working on site for 2 days & then getting $1 a day from it - if you also add in the cost of promoting the site you could easily lose $1.00 a day instead!)

That is the holy grail; take a domain & do what???
What is the best way to monetize a .mobi site -

tipr.mobi (if it worked properly) is a good little fun site but where's the $?

I'm all for ingenuity & up for a laugh but there are 1,000's of great domains going undeveloped because the income streams don't seem to be available yet; a catch 22 situation because the developed sites will attract more traffic & hence some $'s........

I'm sure that the .mobi extension will bring riches to many but my concern is how to get the ball rolling in these pioneer days?

Gary.

I can't help but think at least good part of the answer should lie with mTLD and its "backers" (though very little evidence seen thus far with the size and scope from these investors) -and/including- the development and optimization of the reserved/premium/RFP's into the "ecosystem" IMHO. Time is of the essence, from a technological standpoint, in my personal view. :blink: :talk:
Great post, Gary.

I feel the same way. For those who don't wish to take the initiative and develop your sites... Well, the future really is uncertain atm :|

My advice... Hedge your .mobi investments with some .coms. Then, should .mobi not pan out, at least you'll have something else to fall back on... Even if .mobi does pan out, you'll still need money for those renewal fees -- and potentially many years of renewals before .mobis reach the expectations some of you have. Investing a portion of your domain budget in other, more liquid extensions, may allow you a more predictable and enjoyable experience.
