Are deleted domains worth anything today ? Especially if they have the .net extension. I have my eye on a couple of domains which have more than 50K searches/month on Google and both of them are deleted. Could they be worth buying ?

And what things I need to look in to and check before buying a deleted domain. Since page rank is close to dead I suppose the domain authority would be worth checking.

A lot of people here don't put any value on a domains age so I wouldn't let the idea of hand registering a domain scare you.

I am sorry I am new to the domain selling world could you tell me what does hand registering refer to ? Does it mean registering a new domain which has never been registered before.

Does it mean registering a new domain which has never been registered before.

All it means is that you registered the domain directly, so it applies to any domain that is currently available to register.

Thank you for the explanation. How long should I wait after registering a domain before selling it or putting it up for auction. I bought a LLLL.asia domain with an Estibot value of $1200 a couple of weeks ago which I thought I could sell to a magazine but did not get a response from them. I am thinking of putting it up for auction at Flippa.

It's very simple. Do you have more than end users in mind? Do they spend on advertising? If the answer is yes, you can literally sell them for a couple of hundred bucks. If the answer is maybe, then you'll have to take a call.

There is no official wait time. Many people put domains up for sale almost immediately after acquisition. However, a word of caution, it would be incredibly rare to be able to sell a hand reg in a short time. It often takes years, so if you buy it, be prepared to hold it for awhile and make sure it still looks good. Also, Estibot value is worth what you paid for the appraisal in so far as an exact price. Thousands of people have followed the same path you are, only to be dissapointed when reality hits. Estibot value is essentially worthless and should only be a small part of the process of evaluating a domain for purchase. Also, blindly emailing a company with a sale has a very low response rate. If you got a 2 or 3% response rate you would be doing very good. So try emailing 100 companies and see if you get a couple reply's before being discouraged. Even then, a blind email that is not targeted to a decision maker that you have researched and sought out is a tough road.

I have seen deleted domains which were later hand registered being sold for a few hundred dollars on Flippa. The domain age says a few months and but the whois and archive.org show that the domain is in fact a few years old. The seller simply mention it in the description for the auction.

I know that getting in the domain selling business is not going to be easy and my chances of succeeding are very low but I am just getting in to it as a hobby for now and if I make some profit I will start taking things more seriously.

When writing an email I was not sure what to write. Should I write a long email listing why they would be interested in the domain or should I keep it simple and restrict my self to only a few lines.

The .asia domain I was referred earlier I bought it becayse I found it to be brand able and when I searched on Google for "domain asia" I found a magazine using domain-asia.com as their domain I emailed them and thought they might be interested in buying domain.asia but did not get a response. I never thought of researching if the end user spends on advertising before. I will keep it in mind in the future.

What exactly does make a deleted domain to be good ? I usually look out for exact matched searches and CPC but sometimes exact match searches don't make sense for example if JohnCena.net is available and has over a million exact searches but I think it is useless. What is your opinion on this matter?

Yes, every now and then you find nice domains what people forget to renew or simply just let go.

When searching through my daily lists I use a few indicators to find them. Such as: appraised value, search results, domain age, ads, etc.

I guess you mean deleted domains after the drop phase right? If so, you should try to get these domains on the drop instead :)

Domain age doesn't matter. Just read the article above.

Quality and quantity of content and backlinks matter. Older domains MAY have more backlinks, therefore it would be easier to rank higher.

So ... if you find a good expired domain register it fast! Sell it and buy some more.

The deleted domain is once was registered. It get deleted if no one bids. But, there are many who wait till the domain gets deleted so that they can reg it on nominal cost. Experiment it - mark some domain you want to register that are about to get deleted and check it the other day to see what's taken. Anyway, research is important before registering anything whether available or through bidding.

2 things that mean absolutely nothing:

1) Estibot valuation , automatic appraisals are like horoscopes...
2) Searches per moth for some term. The fact that some term or keywords have lots of searches per month in Google has nothing to do with the domain you want to register. It has to do with domains already ranked in Google. Its like buying a tennis racket because theres a lot of money in tennis.

Estibot is good for inflating the price of your domain in the eyes of a layman end user. Searches per month begin to concern you when you actually rank the domain. Until then you just have a tennis racket, do not plan on any $$$ from tennis.

Try a whois search on domaintools.com, archive.org they can give you valuable insights into the history of the deleting domain.

I have hand reg'd deleted domains which have been sold previously on popular marketplaces.

Namebio.com you can search for past domain sales.

Perhaps domain age doesn't matter but it's a good indicator of a good domain. What I mean by this is somebody registered it for over 10 yrs then it's worth to take a look.

All the best,

Mike :)

Interesting, lets say the domain was in GoDaddy closeouts at $5. How long before you'd get to hand reg it?

What do you mean by search results here ? Do you mean the number of search results that appear on Google for a certain keyword. If yes then what is good a low number of search results for a keyword/domain name or a high number of search results. I think a low number of search results would be better because that would mean less competition.

I found this namepros .com/threads/strategy-for-expiring-deleting-domains.878648/ to be really helpful when learning about deleted and expiring domains.

I know that the domain age does not matter when trying to build a website but from the point of selling a domain I have seen people pay a lot more money for a domain which was years than a domain which was only a few months old.

The number of searches any Keyword receives at major search engines. Usually measured in searches per month.

The higher the better if you are trying to sell domains.
