Depending on Google really sucks big time. I have a Wordpress site, lots of quality, original content (about 700 pages), high quality backlinks, well respected authority in a niche, about 500 uniques per day, about $1k Adsense revenue per month.

Then all of a sudden everything stopped. Google deindexed my site. They notified me that this is due to spam-like content, and they even said it seemed unlikely that I was to blame and that someone had probably hacked the site. Turns out someone had hacked the Wordpress header and inserted hidden spam links and text there. Apparently a basic Wordpress security flaw.

I removed the bad stuff and applied for reindexing. Nothing for months.

Any idea how to get a site reindexed? Google is unresponsive, as they are, and I am a paid Apps customer...they are too big to care for individual customers.

It sucks, depending on Google. They handle billions of sites, and do not have the capacity/interest to care about individual webmasters, I realize that, but still, I bet there are many others who've suffered this unfair treatment as well.

One more reason why type-in traffic is so very important. It's the only kind of traffic you can depend on.

Lesson learned -> if you plan to develop a major site, buy a relevant generic dotcom with proven type-in traffic. That's the smart thing to do.

Sorry to hear about that.

My colleague had the same predicament before. Google was also not replying to the emails he was sending. He said he had to pay someone who works at Google to have the site reindexed again. :(

I've actually had good luck getting them to reverse they're decisions. I had a site banned from Google because of a hack that sounds similar to your case. I submitted a reconsider form after cleaning up the problem and they reinstated the site.

The other case was a PR knock down due to my trying out pay per post. I stopped doing that and after I requested a review my PR was reset.

If google hadn't notified you,
is there a way you would have
seen that in the header just by chance?
I guess I'm asking how to identify something
like that in the headers, what would one look for?

You can open the source code of a page on your blog and scan its links to see if there are any outgoing ones that shouldn't be there. :)

obviously one can't monitor one's sites constantly for this sort of thing. I guess one thing learned is to take website security seriously. Wordpress just doesn't hack it (pun intended).

I'm going to have to bribe someone at Google also, can you give me names ;)

It sucks because I lost $12k of revenue per year due to some idiot hacking my headers. It's not easy to come by that sort of website revenue. Puts a dent in the mortgage fund.

ctrl+a will highlight all "hidden text" as well,so you can see what should not be there.
