I have a very good domain and have just contected one perfect potential end-user. I even created a quality representation of this domain under its URL.

I contacted a finance manager (female, although it should not mean anything), offered the domain and also pointed to URL for more information. This domain can be really of help to their business.

Only 3 minutes later I received her answer, saying that they are not interested. This means she did not even visit the URL for more information.

She is not the owner, but she holds a finance manager position so she is important person within this company, at some way.

Although I do know how to search for contacts and spent more than 30 minutes trying to locate the contact info of the owner, I was not able to find anything.

I have literally hundreds of really quality potential end-users of this domain and this was just the first that I have contacted. However, this pissed me off :)

How do you deal with similar situations?

I dont know why this pissed me off so much, as I am long enough in this business to had the time to learn that situations like this one are perfectly normal and that because of that we need to have at least dozens of quality potential end-users for a domain.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

hmm I think you contaced the wrong person.. imo.

Should be speaking to the Marketing manager or worst cast the webmaster... the webmaster even if outsourced will have a direct line of communication with the marketing manager or the person in charge of making web related purchases.

The finance manager lacks the vison to see the potential in a good domain... all they give a cr@p about is numbers....

The marketing manager will justify the purchase to the finance manger.... it carries more weight because they have an existing relationship so the "trust" obstacle is already overcome. The financial manger would be much more gaurded dealing with a stranger (you) compared to a fellow colleague.

Just my 2 cents...

Be happy she even replied to you, then regain your composure and move on to the next quality potential end user. Don't dwell on your rejections in this business, just move on confidently with a smile on your face!

"Not interested" responses are very common. No need to be pissed about them. It also doesn't necessarily mean they are uneducated about the name. They may have all the information and still not be interested.

If the name is as good as you say and, as you also indicated, you have a huge number of potential end-users for it, just move on to the other potential buyers.

For your own sanity and peace of mind, try to learn to not take it personal and understand there are many reasons why someone may not be interested.

I agree, however, this was the best contact I was able to find (related to a certain person instead of info@, sales@ etc.)

In my opinion, she is just an accountant without any vision outside the accounting. No problem, but she should not say "we are not interested" in the name of the company. It would be better that she dont reply at all. It is the same like the doorman in Hilton says they are not interested in establishing a new hotel on some attractive land.

Yea, I should not contacted her, but on my surprise, she was the best direct contact I was able to find.

I tend to have at least 80+ really quality end-users when I plan to sell my domain and when failure is not an option. And it works perfectly, as with such a base of quality there will always be at least one who understands the value.

Like I sad, I really dont know why this pissed me off so much :) I am doing this for years, but maybe I am just having a bad day and came here to complain :)

This actually motivates me, and I am sure I will sell it for high $x,xxx-low $xx,xxx, but I just like quick deals and really though this company could be a buyer :)

you solicit them,

they say, "not interested"

so, you get pissed?

Spock would say

"your reaction is not logical, Captain"

:)

imo.....

I saw her picture on LinkedIn, and trust me, if you saw here you would be sure she is not educated about the value of domains. :)

This was not nice from me, but I couldnt help myself saying that ;)

Send them the offer and presentation by post courier. Sometimes this makes the difference! :xf.wink:

and follow up after some time by phone or if possible make an appointment for a personal meeting.

Good luck!

what would Spock say

imo.....

I sold thousands of domains (I have been doing this for a long time) and really dont know why I decided to create this thread now :)

I am usually getting about 10% responses, and 50% of them are "not interested, thanks). Among other 50% of those resposnes are "how much?" or some other kind of interest. This was not the first "not interested", neither the last one, but how the fu*k she could know their company is not interested when she most likely hardly understand what a domain is.

Like I said, I really dont understand how come that this pissed me off. Something is in the air probably :)

I actually understand perfectly where you are coming from
when I call a company I often have the same issue
I can't get through to the guy who really would understand the request

and the one I talk to has the guts to tell me
"we don't need it"

lately I was registering an excat match main industry defining .com
for quite a huge business

I was calling about 5 companies
offering them their perfect domain name
for 5000 โ‚ฌ only

they all declined my offer

luckly

as later I became aware of my spelling mistake ;)
the main keyword domain was long gone of course ...

Always contact the owner or marketing manager.

In outbound similar situations are likely to occur, so you can contact the owner directly or move to the next company.

Nah, I will move on. She will know that she made a mistake when their website will look at the back of the one which another end-user will build under this domain ;)

I am even thinking of keeping this domain and starting a real business under it. I checked the competition and my calculation says that $10,000 will be enough for SEO to capture a really good position. With conversion rate of only 1% I should be having 100+ sales a month, and I should expect net profit per sale of $50+ on the average. However, the problem is that I am too lazy for starting that :)

It would be great to know the name. It seems you are really in love with it and your reaction to the enduser's rejection comes from that feeling. Disclose the name here, if possible.

...but it usually does.
lots of sad things.
putting mildly.

Yes, it usually, or at least often, does ;) No offense to women, I still like you, more than you usually like and understand domains :)

It may be that I really like this name thus that could be the reason why I was offended that she did not even think about this domain (she replied only 3 minutes after I contacted her).

Sorry, but I would not like to publish the name, neither here neither on PM. Sorry about that

How did you get 80+ potential end users. That's a lot for a domain IMHO maybe I am still new in finding endusers
