Just received this email from Dan.com about commission increases (snippet of email):

Maybe they "hinted" at becoming a registrar as a marketing stunt to get GoDaddy's attention to buy DAN.
I agree, and I suggested this to Doron. I also suggested adding an additional (less expensive) tier between 50 names and 1,500 names. He said he would consider it.Efty should lower their subscription pricing a bit and they will have a fantastic year, courtesy of Godaddy.
Yes, now is the time for him to get aggressive. A reasonable pricing plan for 1500 and below as @Dane says above would be ideal.Efty should lower their subscription pricing a bit and they will have a fantastic year, courtesy of Godaddy.

They didnโt hint. They indeed had a non public facing registrar. I know because I had to transfer a few domains under payment plans to them.Maybe they "hinted" at becoming a registrar as a marketing stunt to get GoDaddy's attention to buy DAN.
That's the DAN holding account at MetaRegistrar. They didnโt hint. They indeed had a non public facing registrar. I know because I had to transfer a few domains under payment plans to them.
I have no idea. But it said dan from what I recall. I wanted to leave the names right where they were. Either way its not hard to become a registrar if you have the funds. I know a few people who have done it. Also not public facing. That's the DAN holding account at MetaRegistrar.
Yes, to be precise, it mentioned: 'Reseller: DAN.COM' in whois.I have no idea. But it said dan from what I recall. I wanted to leave the names right where they were. Either way its not hard to become a registrar if you have the funds. I know a few people who have done it. Also not public facing.
Ok I will take your word. It still doesnโt negate that they said they were going to and could indeed become a registrar. Its a time consuming process (slow) but not hard. I donโt think they wouldโve mislead us. GD just apparently made the right offer.Yes, to be precise, it mentioned: 'Reseller: DAN.COM' in whois.
This question was asked somewhere but I can't find the post to see if it was answered...
I know that the new Dan/Afternic commission structure starts on Feb 1st. Is that based on the start of a negotiation? Or on the date the name sells? If an Afternic negotiation started today but the name doesn't sell until Feb 2nd, what would the commission be? Anyone know?
Due to a lack of clarity on/in all the communications from the Gddy brands, in addition to a need for a clean transitional starting point, I am assuming any sale occurring on Feb 1 will be subject to the new pricing...regardless of when negotiations started.I know that the new Dan/Afternic commission structure starts on Feb 1st. That's a great point. Thanks.Just imagine the headaches and man hours needed to handle all the clarification needed to 'back date' a sale.

25% is insane. It just is.Btw, it would be cheaper to deliver the domain in person instead of being charged 25%![]()
I used to just simply dislike GoDaddy. I stopped using them years ago, right around the time Elephant Hunter Bob Parsons left his company. Now I am coming to outright despise GoDaddy. It is next to impossible to avoid them at this point and still effectively market domains. Not only that but get penalized by them if you seek to utilize other options to any degree.25% is insane. It just is.
I will avoid them as much as possible. They would not give me a discount on their 'domain buying club' so I've let all that go.I used to just simply dislike GoDaddy. I was getting a discount on their Domain Buying Club. Had it for years. Then a GoDaddy rep told me that I don't need to pay for that club since I was already paying them for a Reseller account... which (I was told) gives me the same discount on domain name purchases. So I stopped paying for the Domain Club. Guess what? The rep was wrong, it does NOT give the discount. Now GoDaddy won't give me the discount on their Domain Buying Club. I'm screwed because a GoDaddy rep gave me wrong information. They would not give me a discount on their 'domain buying club' so I've let all that go.
