I've been having a discussion with my friend over the .mobi extension and it's value. I still believe in the long term it will become a useless extension unless you have the very top keywords in this extension, car, property, loans e.t.c. (sorry if you don't feel the same).

Anyway I asked him what his best domain was in the extension and he replied "cristianoronaldo(dot)mobi". It got me thinking that he'd have problems with trademark issues, so I told him a). it was in a bad extension and b). it was worthless because of T.M. issues.

However I've done some research and it's come to my attention that a member of namepros has the same domain but in the .com extension and is making a lot of money from it, and indeed even looking to sell it. So this has caused me some confusion. Could anyone else give their opinions. I'd like to show him this thread so he can have other peoples feedback too.

Thanks.

It seems like if that guy wanted the domains he could win these in a suit. This has happened before where celebrity names were registered by domianers and then the celebrities won the rights to them. I personally would not reg any names like that. It's just asking for trouble IMHO.

Thanks for the reply keithmt, I agree with you. I think the only way around such domains is to add something like "fansite" or "unofficial" to the domain name.
